Fun times with Civil Defence!

On Friday the 9th of July Civil defence wants YOU to help out in one of their exercises!

You will help with testing a relief shelter, by taking on a role of someone stranded by the disaster and unable to get home. Role-playing can be as hard-out or not as you like. You won’t be asked to do anything difficult, just answer questions.

Cosplay is optional; it would be awesome if you did come in costume though.

FREE FOOD is included.

Where: Burnside High School Greens Road entrance.
When: 7pm till 9pm, but you can come and go as you need.

Auuuggghh, I really want to come because I missed the last one, but I will have been dragged to Nelson to watch gymnastics competitions by that stage Dx

Sorry no there is not.
Because the people who are running the relief shelter, don't know about it yet.
Disasters dont give you much forwarning...

But my Dad is one of the people incharge of setting it up so if you have any questions I could ask him and answer them for you.

What exactly would it involve? It sounds quite exciting but I might be too shattered after work to come...

Something like:

You were at a Cosplay event at the Burnside Bowling Club when the disaster struck.
You are un-able to get home because bridges and roads were damaged. You need warmer clothing and are worried about the rest of your family who you have been unable to contact via cell phone.

You would then funnel through the system,
-Signing in (Name, Cell phone number, address ect. This can be real or fake, all information collected is destroyed after exercise.) This information would be collected and used in a real disaster to recorded who is at the rescue centre so other members of your family at any other rescue centre could know were you are and if you are safe. If you are fluent in another language you could test the translators…

Then if you need extra care you go to that station:
For example:
-Do you have an animal with you that needs food/water/shelter?
-Do you need medical attention
-Do you need clothing

Otherwise you go to the main hall area for food and stuffs.
Until you decide to go through the system again with a different role / go home.

Normally the process of going through the system takes half an hour and involves lots of interesting chats with people around you / your mate who started the same time you did while you wait for your turn.
