When did YOU first started cosplaying?

PBBFT. My first technical cosplay was made by my mom the day before Auckgeddon 2008 ~( Shia, Pita Ten PJ's . . ) This was when I was absolutely obsess<3 with Kingdom Hearts and planed to make Kairi's KHI costume but never got around to it.

Found out about cosplay through the interwebs and a friend who cosplayed Sasuke.
Most of the day I spent alternatively "wowing" over the stalls, her/other cosplayers and waiting to the side enviously as every Naruto fan that passed by went "OMFGSASUKE<3LOLOL~!~!" I wanted to be awesome as that and so for Doujin 2009 I joined CNZ and did my first cosplay made by me; Sakura Kinomoto uniform and Kirakishou.

Maddi forced me to cosplay Pikachu with her to DO '09, shortly after forcing me to join CNZ. I was just getting over my "OMFGANIMEKAWAIINYA" phase, so after a little convincing agreed to cosplay xD
Everyone was so nice! AND FRIENDLY OMFG. When I think back to it, I remember quite a few CNZ people - and only one of whom I knew was from the forums at the time (Rolly) xD

doing my first 1 now, as cloud strife. currently in design of making his sword. and wig is here and friend is styling it for me. if i manage to get outfit altogether im going to dress as cloud for mufti day at school :)

Ermm, lesse, in 2004-2005 summer holidays, I went back to Taiwan and at that point I was completely obsessed with Rockman EXE. 8D And I bought half of Meiru's costume - I never found the right skirt and vest.
This was my first obsession where I wanted to dress up as a character.

The second encounter was in 2007, the months leading up to the summer holidays. I wanted to do a Bleach shingami - I think I wanted to do Rukia at that stage. But due to not being able to find someone to teach me to sew, I had to give up. sad

I even got to the point where I looked up fabric stores on the Yellow pages!!

THEN WITH RENEWED VIGOUR AFTER DISCOVERING CNZ, (got linked from a friend, who's no long active on here, sadly), and receving help from the lovely JVCA, I completed my costume in time for DO 2008. I went as Reimu and I'm still pretty proud I managed to finish everything in time and by hand-sewing. :B

I still laugh that mum thought it was a fad. Little did she know that the Cosplay Bug got me and I can't get rid of it any more. 8D

Um, last year to dunedin, about june, july?
Mandie asked me to go and I thought why not. She was going to be Ash, so I tried talking Aura in to being Misty, until we realised dunedin in the middle of winter, ... Anyway I was brock. A cheap ($8 of materal) has of a vest, the rest bought. And Captain Jack. Because it was warm and I only had to by the shirt and braces.

Then for Auckland 09 I made the whole Zoro outfit, and found there was a one piece group! (Exceot the swords, which I bought.)

Oh, and the costume which motivated me to cosplay in the first place. Started it before ChCh geddon 2010. Hopefully finish it by Auckland 2010.

My first official cosplay was for the EJBJD or the Epic trip to Dunedin in July last year - I was Claes from Gunslinger Girl. My second was Super Sailor Venus and Belle for Auckgeddon 09. And now because of that Sailor Moon group, I've become a huge fan of all the aspects of it (some would even go so far as to say obsessed) - from the manga, anime to even the musicals.

But those are the official cosplays but I've been dressing up since I was little. Like most of my bday parties were costume ones. The best thing was the box of dress ups that my Granny had made for my mum and her sister's ballet recitals, so many awesome home made costumes!!

I first cosplayed in ... 2007? ...? ...? 8D? Um. Yeah. I think so. To the Wellington Rained-Off Cosplay Picnic xP. I went as a very, very fail Zexion. VERY fail 8D;;

The next year I cosplayed a less fail Byakuya from Bleach xDD. Still a bit fail though.

Everyone at work was getting free tickets to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2, and my friends and I all decided to dress up as pirates to go to the movie.

I shaved my hair off, got a proper Medical eyepatch (they give them to stroke patients that lose vision in one eye), bought a fake gold earring and matched some old black jeans, with a suitable ragged white shirt I had. Then I went to the movies... and all my friends came with excuses and no costumes.

But I tell you, when you're a Peacock amongst Pidgeons, there's only one thing to do at a moment like this... Strut!!! Cool

Best reaction of the night, my boss (who brought his 9 year old son) saying to me: "Oh... who is this dodgy looking fellow!"

The first recreation costume I made, though it was an interpretation was in 1994. The first real recreation was in 1995. Both for singing competitions. And I'd often sneak interpretations or recreations into costumes I made for shows I was in.

The first opportunity outside of theatre came with the 2003 Auckland cosplay contest. It was so exciting. I had been a member of the Cosplay.com forums and I knew about the more open interpretation of the word but wasn't sure what the scene was like here in NZ. I wanted to wear my Satine costume but it wasn't close to being finished (I wore it the next year) so made the Galadriel costume (where she is tempted by the Ring). I used techniques I'd read about in stage craft books (felt armour) and online (gelatin ears) and my own theories (PAX alternative- body paint).

So fun. I didn't know anyone at all and only stayed for the contest as I pretty well only go to events to costume and gas bag with people of the same kind ;)

I totally remember your Galadriel costume! I even took some photos haha. I think that was the first year I watched the contest, I was 13. I remember your Satine as well, I remember seeing you outside posing for photos and I stopped and fangirled you for a bit haha. I ended up finding your website describing how you made the costumes, so so amazing.

I remember seeing that costume through a link on the 'Geddon site many years ago, where you were talking about the process of making it. and i saw the cosplayers at the very first dunedin armageddon 2009.

I started in 2006 at Chch's first Armageddon. Yeyeah. I cosplayed as Sakura from Cardcaptors - I had no wig though gonk

and my shoe paint was peeling off - but I am still impressed with the dress since it was the 3rd piece of clothing I had ever made (the others being a home ec. apron, and the other the most craptastic lolita dress in existence).
I started because I had been admiring pictures on the interwebs and saw Chchgeddon had a cosplay contest and thought 'I could do that!!' I had no idea that there were many other cosplayers in NZ (I had only seen a couple on cosplay.com forums)

I think I started back in 2007 at Wellington Armageddon with my Stormtrooper armour and kinda went from there.
Though I've only just started to get more involved in the cosplay side of things (as far as competitions and the community goes) since this last Armageddon in Welly.
I think I started because I needed a new (obviously more expensive Razz

) hobby and to find more creative people Smile
