Obtaining your hits of anime + reccommendations By Guest. 04/06/10, 06:10 am |
| Okay, to start off, let me just say I DO NOT approve of everyone downloading anime onto their computers to watch. I think it's okay to watch on youtube to taste the flavour, if you will, to see if you like the anime or not...which is what I do...and that's my problem.
There's four people in my family and we are on a 20GB broadband plan. Lots, you say? No...I can barely watch 3 episodes of an anime before mom starts screaming that there's only 500MB left before we go over the cap. So really, I can't catch up on my favourite shows like EVERYONE else seems to. Want to see how BEHIND I am?
- Spoiler:
I keep a list (I'm sure everyone does! >___>;;) of everything I've seen or need to see/been reccomended in no particular order. Everything in brackets is how much I still need to see. X3 Currently trawling through DNAngel.~
Cardcaptors -again! I forgot them. (70 episodes) Beyblades - again! I forgot them too. (154 episodes) Nabari no Ou (26 episodes) Air Gear (25 episodes) .hack//DUSK (12 episodes) Naruto (220 episodes, --only 84 to watch) --Naruto: The Stone of Gelel --Naruto: Crescent Moon Kingdom Naruto Shippuden (166 episodes) --Naruto Shippuden the Movie --Naruto Shippuden Movie 2: Bonds --Naruto Shippuden Movie 3: Inheritors of the Will of Fire --Naruto Shippuden Movie 4: The Lost Tower Bleach (1st season, 20 episodes) D-Gray-Man (103 episodes) Katekyo Hitman Reborn! (1st season, 33 episodes) Prince of Tennis (1st season, 26 episodes) Hayate the combat butler (77 episodes) kuroshitsuji (24 episodes) Claymore (26 episodes) The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (28 episodes) Pandora Hearts (25 episodes) Rosario+Vampire (26 episodes) Baccano! (16 episodes) Gintama (49 episodes) PrincessPrincess (12 episodes) Clannad (30 episodes) Prince of Tennis (1st season, 26 episodes) Shaman King (64 episodes) HunterxHunter (92 episodes) Darker than Black (26 episodes) Lucky Star (25 episodes) Durarara (ongoing) 07 Ghost (ongoing) Fairy Tail (ongoing) Sengoku Basara (ongoing) FMA Brotherhood (ongoing) K-On!(ongoing)
Does NO ONE else have this problem? How do you get all of your anime? (Aside from buying it, of course. Don't get me wrong though, buying is GOOD! I do buy a lot of anime.) Where do you come up with oodles of data to download so much?
Also...I wouldn't mind any more reccommendations. The list is so huge, it couldn't hurt to add more! Here's the series' I've bought/finished (not in any order):
- Spoiler:
Black Cat Ouran High School Host Club Fruits Basket Death Note Soul Eater AH! My Goddess! Elfin Lied Zoids: Chaotic Century .hack//EVERYTHING Loveless Spirited Away Howl’s Moving Castle Princess Mononoke The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
I prefer shonen anime (Soul Eater has been my ABSOLUTE favourite so far) but as you can see I don't mind watching stuff with less action. I even watch stuff I don't like just to see why people like it. (Like Vampire Knight! It's like TWILIGHT all over again. Ugh, but I read it anyway. Sorry to the VK fans.)
So yea...help? |

| Dennou Coil. Cannot stress it enough.
Also Tekkon Kinkreet, both the manga and the anime has a REALLY good storyline. EDIT: Also buying it is recommended and legal. Dennou Coil I admit watched illegally over the internet but I have seen Tekkon Kinkreet on DVD and its amazing for a foreign director to pull this one out. Unless you go for lower quality or a higher bandwidth (talk to your mum bout helping out with the internet bill)... |

| Some Slingshot plans have an unlimited period overnight. Ours is unlimited 1am-7am so we set up torrents to download during those times.
We do buy anime DVDs though, just not very much because we can't afford it. I'm behind on anime too >>;
You can also borrow DVDs off friends/forum members to watch, I think there is still a thread on the forums somewhere about DVD swapping. Swap at a cospay meet or something, and then swap back again later. |

| Most of the stuff I like, isn't you know, on DVD.
I don't see them licensing 110 episodes of a 1988 space opera anime anytime soon.
However, I do have what I can get... like, Aria collection from Nozomi/Rightstuf from the US.
Dennou coil is NEVER going to get licensed, so yeah, just download and watch it ;A; |

| I like to watch stuff as it comes out, some of my friends who don't get as much broadband allowance each month also do. I also have parents that remove the internet at night so downloaded anime is my only source of entertainment. Plus, y'know the costing a bunch thing, I really don't have any issues with downloading anime illegally, I buy stuff I really like, I don't often really like things. |

| Also, imo, most of the anime made these days aren't worth a rewatch. |

| @Basaka: I agree...they aren't what they used to be.
Thanks for the tips guys. Unfortunately, changing our plan or service provider isn't an option, as we all rely on Vodafone for our precious MySky. XD |

| Well, it's better than trying to read light novels online. OH GAWD ASDFGGHK:JLK
But yeah, I don't really read manga digitally either. Except like 2 or 3 series. |

Legend of the Galactic Heroes namedrop.. yesssss.
Maybe if you want stick to anime movies? Miyazaki collections are a good start for the ones you havent seen, since it's so universally loved. You might also have some luck looking for smaller iphone/ipod based rips of anime as well, the lower res and lower bitrate will be easier on the connection.
Bar that just see if you can scrape stuff off your friends with a USB Hard Drive :p |

I get my anime from a local rental DVD store too. Would recommend searching around town and looking for gamestores or DVD rental areas that can let you rent out a decent amount of anime DVD's for a cheap price. :> |
