Nintendo Wii Help!
Post By P-Layton. 05/05/10, 04:15 am

I was wondering if any of you cool dudes could help me with a certain problem.
My problem is more of a question and goes as follows:
Can I play NTSC Gamecube games on my PAL Wii? I've looked on the internet for a goodly amount time but couldn't find anything useful.
I've got Homebrew (and thus Gecko OS) so can I start NTSC gamecubes games (F-zero GX in particular) through that?
My TV can play NTSC colours and everything, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks!

I found a couple sites... I'unno if they're helpful to you or not, tho..

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Does_the_PAL_Nintendo_Wii_play_NTSC_games

http://intendo.wordpress.com/2007/02/28/trick-you-pal-wii-to-play-ntsc-gnc-games/

I bought my Wii in Australia and play NZ games on it... But I think we're the same zone, anyway. xDDD;;;

My only suggestion is to try it out and see..?

When we had our wii we had a disc called freeloader for the gamecube. You put this in before you load your disc and it will run another format game NTSC PAL or JP. Then you put in your game that is not pal and play. Freeloader was the one we had. I think you can get others. Sorry im not very good at explaining things.

You can not play NTSC games without this. I'm not sure about haked wiis as we never did that. This is the only method that i know of but there may be more.

Ahh yes. But if they did all come in the same format, then we wouldn't be faced with these wonderful and lovely difficulties. >.> xD;;

^THIS
Thanks for the help, guys!

@Rikku, I checked those websites out (thank you) but I haven't got a PAL Gamecube game, so the first method won't work! T_T
As for the third answer on WikiAnswers, well it wasn't very illegible... plus he/she had a NTSC Wii and played PAL games on it, not vice-versa.

@m4hiain, Freeloader? I've heard of that! Yes, that would probably work, but if I'd buy the software in question and F-zero GX... well I can't. But thank you anyway! Smile

Thanks again guys,
I'll just have to see if I can find it on PAL!

That game does come in PAL. You may have to get it off ebay if you cant find it in New Zealand stores. Best of luck to ya.

Heres a link for ya if you decide on ebay

For older Gamecube games, try the UK ebay, they are pal region too. You will need a gamecube controller and memory card to play them, but it works :)

Since you say you have Homebrew enabled, yes you can just do it through that

@ Lavi X - you serious? Awesome, thanks!
But I'd need to start it through Gecko OS right? Nintendo Wii Help! 65988

@Anaria Zar-Rel - A Gamecube memory card, right? Unfortunately I don't have one of those... but thanks nonetheless.

I got a third party memory card from TradeMe for like... $16 maybe?
And its a lot larger space-wise than a normal gamecube memory card too~

Just a note people should know about Freeloader.

Does it work? Yes. I've played American games on my PAL Wii with it before.

BUT!!!!

It won't work if your wii is upgraded to version 3.3 or higher. Nintendo updated to a point that it can now prevent it from working. Datel who make the freeloader even confirm it on the product itself on their website: http://uk.codejunkies.com/Products/Wii-FreeLoader---Euro-Version___EF000595.aspx

I once heard that there's ways of downgrading your wii, but I wouldn't personally know how. There are other ways to get your wii playing other games that are out of your region - but just be aware that if you've upgraded to 3.3 or above, Freeloader will not work on your wii.
