Alice in Wonderland By Sonic Reducer. 04/03/10, 06:40 am |
| So I saw the movie last night and.....I have to say it was alright. Was nothing too special and pretty much its a movie you have to watch in 3d or not at all but all in all it was an ok movie. Very typical Burton which does get a bit tiring now. Especially the Johnny Depp overload. I get it, hes a good actor, but does he need to be in all your films Tim? |

| OOOH. OOOH. I can comment!
I do agree with you there, that it was alright and not spectacularly super fantastic, but that's usually the case with movies that you really really look forward to. It was nice to see a plotline, but I would have liked a more classic Alice - being a big time fan of the books.
Scripting was awkward in some parts, absolute gold in others.
Johnny Depp's performance as the Mad Hatter was rather inconsistent throughout the whole movie, and while it was an interesting character he didn't quite pin it down exactly. I understand he did his best and the Mad Hatter is an incredibly difficult character to get right, I just wasn't satisfied with the result.
I absolutely LOVED Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. Absolute MAGIC. I wanted to give her bulbous large head a cuddle she was so adorable.
They were SO unfair on the Red Queen! All she wanted to do was to be loved! Sure, she went about things the wrong way but why couldn't the White Queen have given her a second chance! Poor Red Queen.
....SPOOOOON~ |

| I fealt awkward in the movie cause I didn't laugh once. Yet everyone else did, I have no soul.
The story was just very Tim Burton. Which was good like 10 years ago but now growing up with it its just tiring. I understand youngins will find it hip and exciting but its just the same thing as before. |

| I think it's because MySpace hipsters laugh at anything.
I actually thought the whole thing would have been more suited to a stage show. And it would have made an AMAZING stage show. |

| I liked it and didn't like it at the same time. I'll most definitely see it again, to try and pin down a proper opinion.
And, the White Queen, I want to cosplay her just to float/prance around like her for a whole day. |

They made me giggle and cringe at the same time. I kind of wish something had happened though, but I think that's just me being a pervert. |

Maybe for a younger, newer audience it's okay, but for people like my mum it just wasn't anything new. |

| I agrees with it being average. I t wasnt great and it wasnt bad.. It was in the middle... Avatar was better(Naruto movie six FTW) The part that killed it for me the most was her leaving in the end... Why did she not stay?!?! But overall, it was OK |

Re: Alice in Wonderland By riiche-. 21/03/10, 03:18 am |
| ^ I agree. When I watched it as a Disney cartoon movie, I was always scared of the Cheshire Cat and his I-fade-to-almost-nothing-with-only-sharp-grinning-mouth-left-mwahaha.
For me, it didn't feel like a 3D movie at times. Must be because of the lack of things exploding and flying "at" you >D |

| ....Johnny wasn't crazy enough as the Mad Hatter. I did not get the whole 'when-I'm-angry-I'm-going-to-speak-in-a-scottish-accent.'. The dance at the end was...it really didn't seem to do anything for me. |

Re: Alice in Wonderland By Li-Bai. 11/04/10, 11:43 am |
| I'm gonna disagree with you 'Rina and say that I feel it was the right kind of 'mad'. It was a different sort from your Crazy Axe-Murderer kind of mad and I have to say I really enjoyed Johnny Depp's portrayal of him. I don't get the logic behind the Scottish Accent either but it sounded rly hot 8DDb
The dance at the end didn't really do much for me either hahah. If the music had been a bit less hip-hop I think I might've enjoyed it better. Alice doing it was funny though.
But anyway - oh my god this movie was soooo good @A@ That costume designer deserves an award - nay, several awards for Alice's dresses. Those dresses were AMAZING. GORGEOUS. ABSOLUTELY SPLENDIFEROUS. They looked soooo good on Mia Wasikowska. TL;DR - I'm in love with Alice's dresses. 8D
I'm going to give it 9/10 because actually to be honest - Helena Bonham Carter's performance as the Red Queen didn't really do it for me. She seemed to speak kind of fast. If she had been more regal snobbish than brash then maybe it would've worked better, but "Off with her head" really does sound better when it's enunciated clearly.
Great cast of actors as well - and Christopher Lee oh my gosh. Even if he only got like, two lines. That guy is awesome. Cute portrayal of the Dormouse, who's usually too drugged on tea made from poppies and you know it sleepy to do anything. Crispin Glover oh lord!! How old is that man now?? He's still awesome!! Timothy Spalding, whose voice I didn't recognise and Alan Rickman whose voice I did, hohoho.
Crowning Moment Of Awesome: - Spoiler:
When the Mad Hatter's about to be beheaded and he looks up and it's the Cheshire Cat's eyes. PHYSICS YEAH.
I loved the insertion of the 'Jabberwock' poem (how many poems start of with "'Twas brillig, and the slythy toves...", really) but I'm still kinda bummed out that no Alice interpretation to date has ever answered the riddle of 'Why is a Raven like a Writing Desk'. There IS an answer to this.
I'd have loved the appearance of the Gryphon and the Mock Turtle though...
Oh, and you know at the end with Alice's plans? Well... - Spoiler:
I was trying to figure it out, but according to TV Tropes, as the company would have been the first one to trade with China in the universe of the film, she would therefore be the one responsible for introducing opium to China and poisoning her culture to oblivion. OPIUM. Get it now? Clever!
