Victorian?
Post By Mandie_Chan. 20/04/10, 05:03 am

So~ Forum motion ate my post so here is a VERY quick re-write of my better post.

I just got given a Victorian hand made doll. It's beautiful and old and there are aspects of it I would like to use for my own Victorian costume I am making but I don't know how accurate the doll is~

Matching Umbrella - would like to make~
Spoiler:

Lace trim around the bottom edges~
Spoiler:

Little jacket with lace edges
(see above pictures as well)
Spoiler:

I do realize that none of this could be accurate but it was more just to find out if there is similar things back in the Victorian times~

*Authentic nut hat on- porcelain dolls and Victorian dress* Very modern, a style that has been seen for about the last 20 years. Antique dolls (adult ladies are generally referred to as Parisiennes though there were non french dolls) are not so popular amongst anyone who is not an enthusiast as they really look a lot liek the fashion plates of the time ;)

What aspects of those parts do you like? I can easily point to styles that incorporate those elements. The style is closest to early 1870s so that would be a place to start if you were wanting an historic slant :)

And if you are interested in antique dolls I have an amazing book I can scan some photos from.. in fact it may be on google books..

Otherwise the book of Harper's Bazaar fashion plates from 1867-1901 would be perfect for finding styles that match :)
