I think dragonforce is a pretty cool guy. Eh comps guitar solos in protools and doesn't afraid of anything.

Although Iron Maiden = not power metal (nor are Manowar if you're being technical).

I love me some good power metal (Blind Guardian are my personal faves, and the turkish band Mezarkabul) but there's a lot of crap in the genre that gets airplay because PM's getting popular. I have a hard time stomaching a whole dragonforce album in one sitting. But they are brilliant live - a lot of mistakes but they're having so much fun, they really grab you with their energy (cool guys too - gave me lots of hugs).

Anyone going to Maiden? I'm also seeing Hammerfall, Epica, Tristania and Korplikaani in Aug. Yaaay!

Dragonforce isn't power metal either.

It's speed metal.

Oh dear, a genre discussion! I'm so so so sorry.

Dragonforce are power metal. Just because it's fast doesn't make it speed metal. Speed metal is the originator of thrash - like Agent Steel or Exciter and most early thrash albums. There are very few 'tr00' speed metal bands left - most people just call it all thrash.

Power metal, although incfluenced by speed metal (esp the early American sound) is distinct - mostly because of the symphonic context, tropes and themes and the keyboards.

You could argue the point...but the band's called Dragonforce - they sing about dragons, use keyboards and heavily digitised studio effects, and consider themsevles power metal. If that's not power metal...
