How to get clean spikes

Well I'll be cosplaying Len for ACP and I've been trying to style the wig but I can't seem to get any clean spikes! By that I mean the there's pieces of hair not together with the spike all over the place. Help? 8D

Umm... hairspray and hair gel

Don't use hair gel - use hair glue.

First grab the amount of hair you want to spike up, then spray it with hairspray. Keep holding it out, while doing that, squeeze out some hair glue on your fingers and coat the ends of your spikes into a point. Then spray the spike again. You have to hold it in that position until it can hold out by itself. You have to do this with each spike.

You can also rig your wig head to stay upside down so gravity will do it for you.

And don't be afraid to spray that sucker until it's coated with spray.

And then do it again.

That method will not work for Len. :/ She wants individual clean spikes, not the messy look.

I am going to try this agian, but I have the impression that you need to allow a lot of time.
Also Nee, I had problems finding spiking glue at salons. Some supermarkets have it though.

Errr, on the topic of spiking wigs, does that Fruictus (sp?) manga hair gel work? 8D;;;

hair gel doesn't work on wigs because hair gel relies on hair oils from scalps to harden the hair.

Got2b Glued Blast Freeze is what I use~ It's wonderful! I've stuffed my Len & Roxas styled wigs into the bottom of my bag and they've stay in shape with that hair spray~~ (but not recommended for you to do that haha)

^ that, tbh I've been looking for got2b glued hairspray and hair glue and the only place I've been able to find it was at this dairy that I went into one time... I'm regretting not buying it and also not getting hair glue at the supermarkert on Sunday.

Do you have to use hair glue to be able to get clean spikes or is there an alternative? I'll try to go out and get some hair glue but I really doubt that I will be able to >>

^I've seen Got2BGlued on TradeMe occasionally.
I've heard that they changed the name of it, but no one seems to know what it's now called orz;

There are other extra-strength hair sprays. Often a brand has a 1-5 or 1-6 rating. And the odd one will be a 5 or 6. I can't vouch for them vs Got2BGlued. But the idea is a 5-6 should be equivalent of PVA glue! They are designed to hold a punks hair 18 inches + straight up.

I got Schwarzkopf's Spike styling gel, extreme hold, it works horribly on my own hair. ^"^ Just my own personal experience I guess...

Got2B was produced by Schwarzkopf, so I just bought the strongest Schwarzkopf one I could find and it seems to work the same. :3

The manga head stuff works pretty decent on real hair - but deffo not on wigs, as said above.

@Moli: How are you using it though?

Um...applying it onto my hair, wait for it to dry...it would fall down afterwards... Maybe I'm not using enough?

I would assume it depends on how thick the spikes are - if the hair in the middle isn't getting the gel on it, then it can't be glued to the other hairs, thus falling down? That's just speculation though - I'm honestly not sure. o_O

Well I tried asking the salon in the mall, the one with a whole wall of products in front of it, it doubles as a shop.

And they had never even heard of spiking glue, let alone have any! They seem to get anything they want with extra hold gel or hairspray or what ever they use.

But of course they work better with hair. Some wigs are just crap.

But I know Cyren will not let a Salon near his hair anyway. And he uses like 2 cans of hairspray a week to get his VK spikes!

However even cyren could not style my wig. I must say I also did not have any luck with spike glue either. Think I will give it one more go, but when I have a lot of time to spend on it.
