| It's always one of those concerning topics - but you might want to put Singapore in the title so people know it's not local. :/ |

| I'm assuming this took place in Singapore? (putting aside the credibility of the article and sourced media) He did it. They inflated it. The mass-media jumped on the chance to spread anti-Japanese sentiment. We fell for it lol.

| Dunno, heard that if you kind of wear a short costume during NZ Geddon events alone people take advantage of you if you are female, think with characters like Yoko from Tengen and Black Rock Shooter it can be risky if you are alone during any Geddon event and isn't surprised because Yoko just wears barley a bra and a tiny mini skirt and it can draw attention to the wrong eyes..
Just recommend saying with friends around (any) anime event NZ & overseas, because guess it can become like a porn fantasy for a male like the molester in the report mentioned that he liked the idea of the victim being his "Neko". It's gross, but reckon we females should be careful in any cosplaying event but also not let the fear of Molesters and Perverts stop you from cosplaying as your dream characters and don't the fear of dressing less in public stop you from cosplaying a character like Yoko or BRS in public, and hope that this kind of thing doesn't happen to a CNZer or happen within CNZ..
But yeah, sicko of a guy huh. |

Really please do this quickly. Otherwise people on hear panic. And many will get paranoid even once they know.

But yeah, sicko of a guy huh. Good advice claire. And I think people should think about their costume. If you were to do Yoko then you are asking to be stared at. And there are kids around too! But that being said I am not sure where you got the idea that being alone at a NZ Geddon means getting molested. I know there have been the odd report of people being uncomfortable, and one confirmed assault by a couple of kids. But they are few and far between I think. |

| This makes me glad that CNZ is such a tight bunch. :) The fact that the girl couldn't do anything because she was his 'neko' makes me angry, which shows that maybe some people do get too involved in their character, which looks like it could end badly for them. Although the article may be blown up a bit more than it should be, it did make me think more about 'dangers' that potentially circle around cosplaying. How about when cosplaying outfits that show stomach or leg, us girls stick together y/y? (not because of other cosplayers, but I have had privacy issues with random people at geddons before) |

| arrgh, what a sicko. It's sad that this happened in my home country ; ; But thank god I never came across him or anything. The problem is that the cosplayers in Singapore are distant with one another and only hang out in small groups so they don't get to know others. I'm glad we're close so we can avoid such things~ |

| hey you watch Hexlord as well!
there have been many many incidents on sexual harassment in the cosplay world. Thankful nothing major in NZ. There's been so may stories on photographers 'advancing' a little too close to cosplayers, pushing for private shoots etc. D: |

| Sexual Assault. Drunken. But thats no defense. Esp. since he was told before hand nothing was to happen. Not sure it was too bad. But the victim was upset.
But it has been dealt with. Possibly the only one in CNZ history?
Anyway the mods put up a thread about it a long time ago. They probably feel it is a closed subject now? But just to point out it has happened, since we are discussing the chances of things happening in NZ. |

| Back to the events side, fortunately just about everyone knows everyone now as far as the regular NZ cosplayers go. So if anyone get into an uncomfortable situation at a con, I'd like to think they know they can get help from the other cosplayers should they need it.
Likewise it's been said before, but if you see a fellow con attendee or cosplayer in an obviously uncomfortable situation, even if they're not on the forums yet it doesn't hurt to see if they need rescuing and maybe recruiting to the forum. |

But just to point out it has happened, since we are discussing the chances of things happening in NZ. This particular incident I don't have all the information on either, however as far as I'm aware there were a number of details about it which were possibly overstated by various parties and blew it out of proportion. The thread relating to it was deleted (see 'sons & doortars, we r disappoint' thread in announcements), and the individuals involved will remain anonymous. The case was closed and is best left closed. I don't believe any further mention on the incident is required. |

| Took me forever to find, but I think this thread - http://forum.cosplay.co.nz/general-cosplay-discussion-f12/back-up-project-sexual-harrassment-prevention-t3068.htm - is somewhat relevant to this topic. If you have anything to say in that thread, go for it - I think it's still a relevant discussion topic, so it doesn't count as a necro to post there. |

| What a creep and the fact that it was mostly underage girls makes this even worse! Oh god, Star trek guy! He tried to chat me up at last years Wellygeddon, he'd better not be there this year. The skimpiest outfit I have worn wasn't even that bad, it just showed a lot of torso and leg that's all. But I hung out with friends while wearing that and I will always make sure I hang out with people I know if wearing a short skirt/revealing cosplay/whatever. |

and maybe recruiting to the forum. ^also i second this! last year at chchgeddon I had a bref incounter with another female cosplayer who came over an introduced herself and we talked for awhile she thanked us and went on her way. Later I found out her had a stalker and thus the power of GROUPS made him go away~ hmmm wonder if she ever made it onto CNZ *ponders* |
