Eek! Sewing machine problems, help!
Post By Rolly. 19/01/10, 02:30 pm

Today my brother was using the sewing machine, it developed a clicking noise coming from the bobbin case. :/ I'm concerned something is wrong, and it may have come from my brother pulling his fabric too hard (I told him not to) while sewing or something.
I've re-threaded the top a couple of times and checked the bobbin case, took the covers off, gave it a clean and everything. I can't seem to think of anything else.

It sews fine, but the clicking sound is worrying me. I'm worried that if we keep using it like normal it might really develop a serious problem.

I've googled and some answers came up with something about the needle and the hook timing or something. I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problem too?

Sewing machine model is Brother, BM2600. :)
Can you help fix the problem/know what it is?

You could consider pulling apart the whole lower plate bit and cleaning it out? My machine was dropping stitches like crazy so I pulled it all out and found a lifetime supply of dust-bunnies and (more concerningly, and probably the problem) a couple of pins, and it's been pretty much back to normal since then. The instructions on how to take it apart and clean it out should be in the manual - took me about half an hour to do, so I would say it shouldn't be too difficult. :3

My first suggestion would be to do what you have already done. Try changing the needle? If he was being rough, he might have bent the needle and it might be clicking against the casing.

Oooh yes, that's a good point. Also, test to see if it makes the clicking noise with just one stitch type, or with multiple ones.

I know this sounds stupid but try everything again, including as Jess said taking the whole plate off. And make sure everything is back in properly. Even the foot is screwed on tight. I have had this problem before. Can't remember, but it turned out to be something really simple and stupid. And yeah may also need to change the needles and/or adjust the tension.

I've removed the lower plate (metal and plastic) and gave the dust bunnies a wipe, took the bobbin plate thing out and cleaned under that, too.

I'll check the needle again, and check if the clicking noise persists with different stitch types as well.

This is why I'm worried letting my bro use my machine - he has a tendency to break stuff. D:

Ok, will update when I've checked needle and stitches. Thanks guys.

Needle is fine, tried it with different stitches and the clicking noise still persists. I've cleaned the bobbin case place out, but the clicking noise is still there. sad

Did you just look at the needle to see if it was bent, or did you replace it? Have you tried using a different bobbin?

Have you tried tightening the foot and thing that holds the needle?

I've tried changing the needle to a new one, and switched a different bobbin(s) as well. If I manually stitch a few stitches, the clicking sound can barely be heard, so it's just when the machine is running normally.
I've also checked the needle screw thing and it's definitely tight enough. I'm not too sure what you mean about the foot thing (but I've taken the pressure foot off and replaced it a couple of times).

D: I just hope its nothing major, mum borrowed someone's machine (same model), and I've compared the noise to that one, and it doesn't have a clicking sound.

Where is the clicking coming from? Is it coming from the engine, or is it coming from the sewing mechanism (where the needle meets the bobbin)?

If you can't figure it out, getting the machine serviced is not a HUGE amount. Like $100 or something. Call your nearest Bernina dealer and ask if they do servicing or will take it to the servicing place for you. If you send it somewhere else you might invalidate whatever warranty it has on it, and plus the Bernina guys know the Bernina machines best Very Happy

@U_ne_korn my machine is a Brother machine, and it's coming from the bobbin case. ;D Like, when the bobbin turns a huge clicking comes from it, so I'm not sure if it's the needle hitting something or other.

My machine is still under warranty. I got it from Harvey Norman Botany, and apparently they have a girl called Liane (sp?) that can help with repairs or send it off for me or something. Well, w/e it is, I hope it's not a huge issue.
I'm using the borrowed machine from mum's friend at the moment (and I can tell it must have a huge litter of dust bunnies underneath 'cause of the noise, but I can't open the screws 'cause they're on too tight D:), so hopefully I can get it fixed/serviced ASAP. At least I can finish my ACP on time. :'D

Totally undercaffinated today, for some reason I was certain you had a Bernina and I have no idea why.

another thought, make sure the bottom case is aligned properly with the plate, or something like that, i had mine (BM3600) apart once and had all sorts of fun getting it working properly again until i realised the bobbin case was offset by about 5% or something like that.. anyways.

I got mine serviced at Nancy's, when it started refusing to sew past the first few centimetres-cost about $70, and my machine is OLD(Like real, real old. From the days when Bernina had a jingle.) If you're really unsure about what to do, talk to the experts-I tried a lot of careful trial and error fixing when my machine broke down, to little avail, and I may, or may not have made it worse....
