Where The Wild Things Are By commandercandyfloss. 06/12/09, 07:11 am |
| Just yesterday I went and saw this movie and, wow, it was quite different to the book. It's not a bad movie, not by a long shot, I really liked it myself C: Though I did cry (yep, I'm a movie wimp).
Has anyone else seen it/Is anyone else going to see it? |

| I can't wait to see it. I mean, of course it's gonna be different from the book, that thing is tiny, but it looks very... emotional I guess? Like UP. But without the happy colours.
I can tell I'm gonna cry already. I'm a total movie wimp too... I was in tears for about 60% of UP, so beat that, rengen! |

Re: Where The Wild Things Are By Cronenburger. 06/12/09, 02:49 pm |
| Just saw it today.
The tone of the film is so different from the book. I don't think I would call it a fun movie at all (any fun in the film is quite deceptive). It really goes out of its way to paint a sad portrait of adolescence. That's not to say it is a bad movie though. In fact, it is arguably my favourite film of the year (up against Inglorious Basterds). I don't think many children will be able to fully grasp the complexities of the film. And I think a lot of people will come out of the cinemas upset by the kind of film it is. Most people will go into the film expecting warm fuzzies and will leave disappointed.
Totally solidifies Spike Jonze's position among my favourite directors though. |

| Yeah, it's definitely like that. I saw it with a 7(?) year old and he walked out rather confused. It had a very sad undertone compared to the attitude of the book. |

| Yeah I can totally see most people walking out, unsure what to make of it all. That statement isn't limited to children. Compared to most films, in general, it has a real relentless message. That's not to say it is totally bleak and hopeless, but overall it feels like the cinematic equivalent to Beck's Sea Change. It drowns you in melancholy, and when you are given the chance to go up for air it just pushes you down under again. |

Re: Where The Wild Things Are By Li-Bai. 07/12/09, 03:36 am |
| I'm going to see it this afternoon methinks >w> Considering I cried during the trailer with OMGNOSTALGIA I think it's safe to say I'll be sniffling my way through it, haha
Edit: Just got back from it and gosh, it's awesome stuff I cried xD Hellz yeah. Cinematography, (voice) acting and soundtrack were all wonderful! It's a coming-of-age film in its own right, I think. I wish The Bull had got more character development though >w>
My favourite line in the film was definitely - Spoiler:
"That was my favourite arm!" haha xD
I give it four out of five stars :3 |
