Making long hair short?

I know this sounds stoopid, but does anyone happen to know a ninja way to make long hair look short? As in, OTHER than cutting it. ^_^"

I know that you can twist it around and put it under a hat, with the ends sticking out the bottom (have done this before =]) but that tends to be very tricky and troublesome, and is very limiting. Anyone got ideas?

Ah, mid upper-arm to mid-back when curly, but almost waist-length at the back when pulled straight ^_^"

oh lol, well, i guess it all depends on the general look you're going for xD i'm assuming you're looking for a male sort of appearance?
for that, all i can think of is stuffing hair under hats and beanies and bandannas, in general. >_<

I imagine the first thing you'd want to do is straighten it, because that'll make it easier to get the right look, but without knowing the character or what you're wanting it to look like, I can't really suggest much more. n_n;

Hmmm strangely enough I know how to do this, though it only really works from front on and maybe side because I used a lot of pins in the back to keep it still.

I just got the hair towards my neck and pulled it forward but you have to brush it to make sure it stays, and keep doing the same until you have the base done but with the hair on the left side pull it over to the front right to prevent it from slipping, then pin and vice versa.

I have no idea if that helps but I've done it and it works but it takes some time to get pretty good at it and it also takes a long time to pin it. Oh and my hair is just below my shoulder blades and I can get it to just shoulder length though I was going for a long fringe

If you're being a cowboy, could you tie it back in a low bun and hide the bun under your neckerchief?

Pins. The horror. Would definitely need to straighten my hair beforehand for that, otherwise I'd never get the pins BACK!

Had considered the low bun, but I'll think some more ^^
