| You could almost make it out of an old motorcycle helmet.
I converted an old motorcycle helmet which cost me $1 from Trade Me for my Space marine costume. I can post pics if you need any. |

| Yes please
I have PM'd a dude in Aussie about making one for me, his work is awesome! He was the Awesome Cyberman at Melbgeddon this year! lol He is hardly ever on the ACG Forums, so I am keeping my options open...
So yes please on the pics ;D |

Re: Helmet Anyone? By Cookie Monster. 04/11/09, 07:46 am |
| I started with a helmet like this:
- Spoiler:
As you can see, the bottom of the helmet sticks out further than the top ot the helmet, plus the top of the opening is on a 15 degree angle. I cut the whole front of the helmet off, extended the bottom (with styrofoam) by 2 inches, so the helmet was reasonably easy to get on and off my head, then brought the front out roughly 6 inches (with styrofoam again) so it was lined up with the bottom of the helmet.
I then filled gaps and joins over the styrofoam, with a light-weight plaster.
- Spoiler:
I finished off by fibreglassing over the plaster and worked it into the original helmet's fibreglass.
I don't have any good photos of the finished helmet. Only this one after I attached the golden eagle to it before filling up any random holes.

| Matt is an original BSG fan, and has the classic Viper helmet on his wishlist - a good one will set you back a lot - I don't know of anyone selling a cheap kit. Your best bet is to find a prop maker willing to make a lightweight version for less. Check out the RPF forums, that is a good place to start.
Looking forward to your progess on this - I'll end up making the classic costume for Matt (and possibly myself) in the near future :) |
