Real-hair wig? By Rehtse. 27/10/09, 02:17 pm |
| I was wondering, what are the prices for a real-hair wig (maybe blond so it's easy to dye)? I kind of want my wig to look more realistic than a synthetic wig. Would that be too much to hope for, do you think?

| $100+ essentially - they're VERY expensive. You can get realistic looking synthetic wigs for about half that price usually - Kankalon fiber wigs are usually quite realistic looking, though colour plays a large part of what looks realistic and what doesn't. :) |

| Indeed they are expensive-a friend of mine whose hair fell out because of meds had a blonde human hair wig-pure italian hair, which cost upwards of $350. |

| Hand knotted wigs for tv and shows cost arounf $3000 each. I have seen human hair falls for $300 before.
It really depends on your purpose as to whether the investment is wise. |

| You can straighten most synthetic wigs (again, I really recommend Kankalon as a fiber) through a couple of different methods - and in the same way you can put curls into them as well. |

| Okay then. xD I'm new to cosplay so I'm just looking at all the options. You see, I need a pink wig, so it's hard to get a realistic-looking one of those... I'll look into getting a Kankalon fiber wig.
And while I'm at it, asking these sorts of questions, how much are hair extensions? |

| Depending on the character, if you're after a realistic pink try a dark pink http://www.cosworx.com/images/cosworx/dark-pink.jpg or a powder kind of pink http://www.ginnymcqueen.com/random/pinkngreen.jpg rather than say, a hot pink. :) A lot of the time how realistic it looks is not down to the fiber, but the shade you buy.
Hair extensions - as in clip ins, or ones from the hair dresser? |

| I don't know D: This may surprise you, but I've never been to the hair dresser's before. Ever. My mom's always cut my hair. Dx What I do know, though, is that it's going to be hard to find a wig that fits me AND goes down to my butt.
Oh, but that powder-kind-of-pink is just what I'm looking for. Thanks. :) |

| Glad I could help.
Oh wow - never been to a hairdressers before? :O Well, afaik the ones the hairdressers do are attached via a crimp (a small metal band which is basically 'squished' onto the hair), and I think they're quite long lasting but quite expensive? You can get clip in ones though that you can take in and out off trademe though - is this the sort of thing you mean? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Health-beauty/Hair-accessories/Hair-extensions/auction-249687211.htm You can also get full clip in ponytails and such as well from most wig stores. :) |

Re: Real-hair wig? By Rehtse. 30/10/09, 09:46 am |
| -tears of joy- God is with me. I have found a wig on TradeMe. It's the right length, it's cheap, it's made of "KaneKalon fiber" (is that the same thing as the Kankalon fiber you mentioned?) and it's a sort of hot pink colour. I'm looking for a more bubblegum pink, but that's okay. The colour can be fixed right? There's something I can do to sort that out, isn't there? -goes to check the other threads in the Wigs, Hair and Makeup forum- |

And you cannot lighten the colour of a wig unfortunately, but you can darken them. |

| You can't lighten a wig so if you're looking for bubble-gum and it's hot pink I'd go to ebay or cosworx and order from them |

| Yeah, you can't lighten a wig, but you can theoretically (NOTE - I take no blame if this doesn't work, I haven't tried it!) dull the colour of a wig if you don't mind it going slightly darker by using a light grey ink to dye it - logically it should tint a bright pink to a duller pink (NOT a lighter one though), but again, I haven't tested this so I can't say for sure. |

| Bah. Oh well. Light pink, hot pink, who cares. It's not like she's real anyway. They can't draw their pinks too bright in mangas and animes 'cause it would dull out the rest of the drawing, so for all we know her hair is the colour of a ripe tomato. It's good enough, I say! |

| Ack, now I'm confused. CosWorx is a darn good site and now I'm wondering if I should buy their Clover-L in pink instead. They do have a wonderful bubblegum/cotton candy pink... Hmm... I will have to think about this. |
