| I like the idea. I don't have a competitive bone in me, so I wouldn't feel overshadowed or intimidated if I entered, but I do agree with Jess in that there's more of a chance for everyone to get the recognition they deserve for putting so much time/effort/money into their costumes with the two classes. |

| @Mandie: Michaela said certificates yesterday, but I personally think honourable mention = certificate, best skit/technical/individual/group = medal and best in show = trophy would be an awesome way to do it. 8D |

| wow... That actually sounds PRETTY SPIFFY! and a whole lot cheaper than the money prizes too lol a down side could *possibly* be that they won't know how many are in the group/skit/tech. and sharing a medal would not be that cool/easy.
all this talk is making me so excited to be a cosplayer and I want to win a medal now! because the 'best in show' is probably out of my reach for now |

| I like the idea very much, I'm definitely entering the comp next year and being able to enter as a novice makes me feel way better about it, I just need to figure out what to do so I can work on it over the holidays and save myself somewhat from the pre-geddon panic |

| It'd be awesome to get that sort of thing. It'd definitely be a good addition to what I plan to do with my props - hang them up on a wall with a framed photo of the cosplay the prop is used in hanging beside it. A medal or certificate with it would be awesome. |

| I haven't read the whole thread but please before anyone gets worked up wait for the official announcement from myself :) It is not intended to punish or intimidate anyone and quite the opposite :)
Will work out details but I will post an official announcement once I finish replying here to at least give people a heads up *before* the details are finalised :) |

Re: Novice and Expert Cosplay competition announcement By Icarus. 27/10/09, 09:05 am |
| The novice class will be a good idea, though I'm gonna say that the rule of 'having made atleast 70% of the costume' should stay, or have the percentage a little lower. I'm just not too sure about seeing a crowd of 'I-just-wore-a-shirt-and-jeans-and-can't-be-stuffed-getting-a-wig' L entries (I'm sorry, but competition entries should atleast have effort put in there)
Would the expert class will be for those who have won either best group/skit/technical etc. ? Would that include honorable mentions? |

Re: Novice and Expert Cosplay competition announcement By Suixelo. 27/10/09, 10:14 am |
| I am waiting for official annoucement before I make any judgements, but I really hope I can still enter novice next year. This was my first competition and I know I am nowhere near winning with Rowan, Alex & Jess, Clan Biscuit etc and honestly, I'd like a chance. Idk I probably will enter open anyway, for the challenge, but this was my first self made cosplay, so it's a bit bizarre if I can't enter novice. My honourable mention was for my skit, not for my cosplay itself I think =/ |

| Michaela's announcement ( http://forum.cosplay.co.nz/announcements-and-updates-f1/changes-to-cosplay-contest-t6237.htm ) makes it sound quite promising that honourable mention might not be included in the requirements. :) In any case, I expect the final announcement to clear things up a lot. |

| No worries - I almost missed it too, hahah. I know I would have been in the same dilemma back in '07 when I first entered, but knowing you at least have the choice is always good. :3 |

Re: Novice and Expert Cosplay competition announcement By angellsnz. 28/10/09, 03:16 am |
| Hi, As you could see my M's post, (and because of what happened over the weekend), the division of class/skill level will now be instigated. While we have been talking about this for a long time, we have only been able to say that we will be implementing it for next year. It is pleasing to read that you guys are really psyched for this to happen. Obviously there will be things that need to be sorted before we/M put's out the official notice. It won't be very quick as the both of us are on hiatus in regards to the cosplay comp, and just having a wee little break. But I am sure it will be out as soon as M makes a decision on how it will work. Cheers, Angellsnz |
