PS3 Slim anyone?

It was widely speculated among the gaming press that Sony would announce a slim version of the PlayStation 3. Recurring rumors of price drops and supposed spy shots fueled speculation for months.

Sony's next major gaming press event is Tokyo Game Show, which begins in late September.

Personally, I don't like the design. I'm not usually design conscious, but there's something about it that I just don't like. I'm happy with my 80GB PS3.

All I care about is backwards compatability. If it's not able to play at least MOST PS1 & PS2 games, then I'm not interested. I'll be losing my PS2 console soon (actually belongs to someone else) and I'll have to think about whether or not to buy a new console and which type. There are not enough PS3 exclusives to justify getting one unless it will also play the large collection of PS1 & 2 games I've got access to.

OK, well then I'll buy a PS2. And they wont get my moolah, because I'll probably get one second hand. physics 'em.

Backwards compatability is my major electronics pet peeve.

You could try to get a second hand 60gb ps3, they have back compatability (I know I have one)

I heard Activision (who produced Guitar hero, amongst many other games) threatened not to release games on the PS3 unless Sony lowered the price. But is that relevant?

Personally, unless it's a handheld (like a DS or a PSP) I'm not fond of 'slim/light/lite' consoles. They have a tendency to overheat a lot and interupt gameplay.

And I agree with the OP, I'm not fond of the design either. I like my chunky beast. XD

Besides, how many PS3 owners kept their PS2 anyways? I know I sure did - that console has been a loyal thing to me for 7 years now. chuu~!

I still have and use my PS2. Mainly since I didn't get a 60GB PS3.

The first thing I did was get my PS2 modded as to expand my gaming horizons.

I find it amusing that they cite "80-90% of people buying PS3 do it for PS3 games", when they probably know perfectly well that they would probably sell a LOT more of them if it had backwards compatibility, it's not like someone is going to go buy one, find it doesn't have backwards compatibility and then take it back to the store in this day and age, they will look on the internet for system specs, and if it does not meet their criteria, they will not buy it, simple as that. "Percentages of sales" comments are a very flimsy and volatile thing to work off of.

I know I for one have not purchased a PS3 simply because the current library of games on the PS3 do not interest me, and the ones that DO interest me are also released on the ~~Xbrick~~ Xbox 360 and Wii. The only games that MAY entice me to buy one are FF13, Kingdom Hearts 3, and Final Fantasy 14 (which from the sounds of it is meant to be available on PC when it releases, so even that is not a 100% commitment)

On the subject of Playstation 2 units, try buying from somewhere like EB Games, the prices of Playstation 2 units are getting VERY cheap, if you buy one brand new it will often come bundled with a couple of games, and if you buy it from a store you will have a service warranty compared to if you buy it second hand, which it may very well not have a warranty, or the warranty may have been voided by the previous owners attempt to put in a mod chip or something along those lines.

The .hack games went out of production AGES ago and are now an extremely rare collectors item. If you buy it off trademe, assuming you are lucky enough to track down a copy, expect to pay top dollar for it.

As much as I hate to say it (and generally do not support it) your best bet is probably to get a modified ps2 and a burnt copy of the games.

darn i want that blu drive now >< im now really bored of playing dvd's in my pc and hooking it to the tv cuz then the remote for the tv dont work and it has no audio in, and some moveis just dont work when u pu them on a external HDD and plug that into the tv cuz of the codecs which i cant seem to update >_<

You can pick up a PS3 Slim + Batman: Arkham Asylum for $629 fom DSE when they come out on the 3rd. Although mind you, the slims appear to only be in 120GB at the moment anyways.

I use my PS3 as a mass media storage device as well as a gaming machine.
