Sewing Machine Raffle! (And Quilting Plug)

Yo guys,

Planning is already in progress for Nana-con 2011 and while thank heavens I'm not going to be involved, I figure a little plug isn't going to hurt.

Their fundraising involves raffling off TOP OF THE LINE Bernina sewing machines. The tickets are $2 a pop, and you can buy as many as you like. It goes until December 6th.

The first prize is a Bernina 440QE with BSR, worth $4499. I've used one of these babies and it has more Bells and Whistles than any normal person will ever use. BSR is a neat little thing where it you always produce stitches of the same length, regardless of what you're doing with the fabric. They have an onboard computer, and ... well it does everything. Like I say, this is a top of the line sewing machine.

ALSO, registration is now open for the Symposium. I know I'm not the only quilter here, and I think I'm pretty safe in saying that there will be classes you guys will like. Japanese quilting, making bags, or books or all sorts. I don't know for sure yet, but I'll keep anyone who is interested posted. These classes are likely to be about $100/day, plus materials.

I've also been privy to meetings detailing how there is likely to be classes specifically for high school kids that will be FREE. Of course, you'll have to buy materials, you'll have to get yourself to Queenstown and pay for accomodation. But the class itself would be FREE. Although remember you'll be competing for the spots with the children and grandchildren of 1500 odd quilters...

They are also putting a call out NOW for anyone who wants to be a Merchant. Now these spots are quite expensive (I don't have details, but expensive). However, you'll have literally THOUSANDS of sewing obsessed customers. With money to burn...

There is also an exhibition. One of the catergories is Youth - 13-19 year olds.
There is also a 3d entry category. The theme is Fibrelicious, and is an "anything goes" category. The entry has to be smaller than 395mm x 455mm x 170mm. Make anything you like! This would be a great chance to expand your sewing skills in a new direction!

Nana-Con is what I dubbed the National Quilting Symposium. It's a bi-yearly event where 1500 quilters get together in one city and have 5 days of classes, drunken debauchery (my god do nana's debauch. My brother was hit on like 20 times by nanas!) and spending of excessive amounts of money on quilting things.

I was on the committe for the one in Wellington this year, due to mum being the head honcho, and as a result I get first dibs on classes next time, so I'm watching closely Very Happy

I'll PM you details for the raffle. when I find the peice of paper. But it's a private address and I don't want to put it online where everyone can see it.
