Is it possible? By Cactiberry. 13/10/09, 01:22 am |
| So i've gotten my Fuuta wig, and I reckon it's pretty good in terms of length and quality. But, uh, it's too dark. Is there anyway to lighten a wig? I'd wear anyway even if it's too dark, but I'd prefer if I could make it lighter. Suggestions? |

| I don't believe there is a way to lighten a wig, unfortunately >: |

| No..you can't make synthetic fibre lighter unfortunately. You could try highlighting it with a lighter shade of fibre (sewing in sections of it to the existing wefts) but otherwise you might be stuck. :S |

| Damn. I've heard of leaving a wig in the sun to lighten it, but iunno if this will damage the wig or not :/ /wig newbie |

| No - wig fiber doesn't get sunbleached like real hair does, sadly. All that will happen is that your wig will get a bit warm, lol. *offers her sympathy* |

| I hear a lighter, in conjunction with lighter fluid will help...

| WIG Dye (not hair dye!) does work on synthetic wigs, though some fibers hold it better than others (Elora doesn't dye very well, for example, but Kankalon dyes amazingly well), but it will only tint the fibers - so it can go darker, but never lighter, sadly. |

| Acrylic ink, Isopropyl alcohol, and a light coloured base wig. I've done it twice now - the first time was great - a cosworx scruffy gone from light (almost platinum) blonde to bright yellow (ironic that it worked so well, 'coz I was trying to go for a muted yellow. XD), and the second being a punky S which didn't work as well, sadly, because it's elora fiber. We were trying to go from platinum blonde to a mid/light grey (think Kakashi colour) but it just looks a grey/white... Ah well - serves me right for buying the wrong kind of fiber'd wig! XD
But yeah - following the recipe on coscom, I think it was 8 drops of acrylic ink (it does have to be acrylic) to half a cup of alcohol or something? My memory sucks, lol, but the thread is on cosplay.com somewhere. :) |

| //has just died her blonde wig to red. 8D Admittedly it's a pinkish red, but I haven't done the final layer yet~
Recipe I followed: 75% of Isopropyl alcohol {Just under 3/4 of a cup} 1/4 cup of water 12 drops of acrylic dye/ink/Magicolor stuff says just liquid acrylic! |

And using closer to 70% seems to be important. Going to try this.
But Alcohol is expensive. Is there a cheaper place to buy it? |
