Superhero Movies and Films based on Comics
Post By Dozy. 16/05/08, 03:24 am

This winter superhero movies are flooding the theatres. Iron Man has been out for a couple of weeks. The Incredible Hulk, comes out soon, as well as Will Smiths alcoholic superhero Hancock, and the highly anticipated Batman film with the dearly departed Heath ledger as 'The Joker'.
For the past ten years since the release of Blade, american superhero movies have been extremly popular, including Spiderman, Daredevil, Superman, Batman, The fantastic Four, The Hulk, Elektra.
Also the more adult comics have been turned into films like V for Vendetta, and Road to Perdition.

But for just as long as Hollywood has been adapting comics to film, japan has been turning manga into live action films. Classic manga like 'Devilman', and more modern manga like 'Mushi shi' have been adapted. And tons of other I don't know of.

So what I am trying to say is what are people's favourite adaptions from comic/manga to film and what are the worst.

Comic adaption
fav film: Blade, V for Vendetta
worst: Electra

manga adaption
fav film: Lady Snowblood
worst: tie between Devilman and Guyver

Obviously I have way to much time on my hands at work I should really do something.

i liked watching v for vendetta though i was disappointed that they didn't stick close to the comic. i did not like the hulk movie (not the latest one, the one before it, i haven't seen the new one).

i haven't watched many live action manga adaptations though i will be interested in seeing how the live action version of ghost in the shell (due in 2011) turns out.

it is rather annoying that many film adaptations i've seen end up turning into something dreadful. so i prefer either watching the film before reading the series or not watching the film at all unless someone highly recommends it

My uncle tells me about the latest films being made.
I found out about Iron man last year in April and a month later i heard of Forbidden kingdom.

The movies, mostly suck. The first spider man was awesome(ish) the second was better, and then the 3rd kinda killed it for me sad.

Hulk was to quiet and dark and kinda lost interest in like 8 minutes lol.

They make the movies to cheesy and not part of the story.

When waiting for Hulk, alot of us were expecting alot of chasing and fighting.
We got Banther Banther Banther Fight talk puke blah blah blah lovey dovey puke.

Deathnote wasn't as good as i thought, probably because i fell asleep there aswell.....

I like the latest Hulk Film, with Edward Norton in it...not only is he damn fine, but a great actor (American History X is one of his best films!!)

Yeah, I'm SO keen for Watchmen. I'm hoping it will live up to the Epic-ness of the graphic novel.

Also, something tells me the Live-Action DBZ movie that's coming out is going to suck. A lot. For one thing, it's made by Americans. That should ruin it enough.

I thought the Death Note movies were hilarious. I shouldn't have thought so, but they really were. Especially L: Change the World. This was probably because they weren't very good. Enjoyable, but still.

English as a subject has ruined movies for me. Dx

Well, for DBZ.

They got a skinny little white kid as Goku. and hes a highschool kid who gets bullied -_-.
Karate kid anyone?
and then a short little english guy who hasn't been seen for 6 years.

If they can kill Mummy, final fantasy and good tv. They can kill anything sad.

I'm so put off I don't want to see it.

...but because I'm so put off it makes me want to see it just because I want to see just what makes it so off-putting and then I'll see it and then find out and immediately regret seeing it in the first place.

Funny how American films work out that way.

They have subliminal messages.

Some say "Join the army, die for your country!" and others say "No mexicans"

So much cheese in their films.....thats why non-american films are moar populear.

Watchmen?.......That was one of my favorite novels when i was....i think 15?!!!!!

So many Paragraphs sad

It's absolutely brilliant. I only read it a couple of months ago actually, when I started getting into American graphic novels as opposed to manga.

My boyfriend recommended it to me after he read it (after seeing the trailer for the movie). Usually I can trust him when he recommends me stuff.

He recommended Southland Tales the other day. He has the movie, and I found the graphic novels at the library. I saw a bit of the movie and got bored. Dx I like abstract stuff, but some things just put me waaay over my head.

I can't say I've heard of it sorry. Dx

I think Sandman is what has gotten me so into graphic novels. Neil Gaiman is GOD. They're making another one of his books, Coraline, into a film. It's going to be stop motion so I'm hoping it'll be better than Stardust.

But I'll admit, Stardust was pretty cool.

What I want to know is, why the hell would they cast James Masters, who would so totally suit the role of Billy Idol more than this one, as Piccolo...can someone tell me please!?

Probably.
