Auckland D&D group?
Post By burning batsu. 24/08/09, 12:01 pm

(first things first I have no idea if this is even in the right area, if it is not, a moderator may have to move it to the appropriate area...)

Ok, here's the deal, basically I'm interested in organising a D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) group if there is anyone out there keen that lives in the auckland area, it would most likely be on a Saturday or Sunday Night, maybe starting around 5-6pm and going till whenever we got bored. I'd be happy to act as the DM for the group since I have pretty much all the required material to run campaigns, but due to the shift-based nature of my work, I would not be able to run the event every week, in which case if I was scheduled to work a particular weekend I would give the group 2-3 weeks notice that the group would not be meeting on a particular week.

You would be required to supply your own set of dice, and a copy of either the version 3.5 or version 4.0 rulebook, depending on which version we use (the rulebook can be purchased from most gaming stores, such as King of Cards, or Vagabond for example), and we'd all chip in towards food (be it pizza or whatever we felt like having that particular week)

If you are interested, feel free to make a reply here, or drop me a PM if you're feeling a bit shy about admitting you like D&D

(edit: dice-wise here is a typical dice set, but it is recommended to bring extra d6's as the group progresses...

  • One 4-sided die
  • Four 6-sided dice
  • One 8-sided die
  • One 10-sided die
  • One percentile die
  • One 12-sided die
  • One 20-sided die
    )

It does not take long to learn, probably the most daunting part of playing D&D is the initial startup cost to buy dice, and a copy of the players handbook to be able to refer to when playing (Depending where you buy it from the handbook can cost a good $60 itself)

You would have an interesting time with me then since I do not always go by the book, I like custom campaigns and designing my own monsters based to some extent off existing ones :-p

hooray, more D&D players.

i'm a DM myself, though i must say my 'start-up' cost was ~$10... there was a RPG shop in dunedin that sold sets of dice for that much, and all the handbooks i needed were easily procured off the net and referred to on my laptop when the time arose. C':

Personally I order having the actual books on hand :) I realise having a digital copy may be more convenient, but I just seem to prefer the genuine "carbon copy"

each to their own preferences though...

Vageley interested. Please tell me it will be a 3.5 group? 4e fails hard.

I own a dice set, and meatworld copies of the 3.5 core books. Ex-regular is credit to team!

It all depends on what ruleset the majority wishes to use. If they mainly want to use 3.5, we'll use 3.5, if they want to use 4.0, we'll use 4.0

This all based on the premise that I get enough people interested...

I'm putting myself forward as being tentatively interested, especially if there's room to explore other games such as Arkham Horror.
