Photography question, for my project
Post By Static. 18/08/09, 12:45 pm

This is more aimed at peoples I'm photographing when I'm up in aucks in september rather than the general cosplay public, but hell - if you're keen, I am!

I'm thinking about hiring studio space so I can shoot on a (well-lit) white background when I'm up there. This is pretty open at this point - I don't know for sure if I can afford it, nor if that's the direction I'm going to go in anyway...but I did a sweet little shoot yesterday that came out really nicely on just a stark white background (sample here: http://www.little-noise.com/share/DSC_4031.jpg ) and I'm wondering how it would look if I used this as a shooting strategy. I will still shoot location shots, because I love them and everyone else seems to love them too, but how would people feel about making a trip into a studio in town on saturday evening/sunday morning if I can get one?

OH YEAH. And if anybody knows anyone studying photography with access to student studios, and could get us all in for FREE that would be amazing....! I promise I'm well trained, housebroken, and unfailingly hilarious Very Happy I will flash Massey credentials if need be.

I LOVE YOU ALL. PEACE!

There are studios available at AUT but I think they have to be used by AUT students... I'll email one of my lecturers and ask if you'd like?

@JVCA: That would be awesome, and hugely appreciated! I'm in my final year of a photography degree doing honours at Massey Wellington, if this information will help sway him...pass him my email if you like, sylvie @ little-noise.com :3 And if you drop in that it's as part of my final research assignment and I'm working my little ass off that'd be AMAZING...and I wil happily provide a reference from my tutors at massey; they've offered already!

@Cacti: hehe, it would work well for everyone, that's the beauty of a white cyc background Very Happy This gir shoot is the best I've had - I've FINALLY worked out how to do the setup properly! That white background is, in reality, very very dirty and not very white any more at all. It's mostly as an aside to the location ones, they're lots of fun, but this is an avenue I haven't explored yet.

I can't seem to find an email address for my photog lecturer, so I'll ask her in class on thursday. :)

I believe we also have a black room as well as the white one, if you'd be interested in that...?

Hmm...maybe, but it'll require a separate lighting setup. Which is fine, I suppose, if I'm allowed to have 4 lights and two softboxes at once Very Happy I do have a couple of lights of my own, but they are very difficult to transport and I'm more used to working with flash units in the studio. Also black costumes disappear on black backgrounds, whereas white fabric on a white background still retains some detail. You're awesome, by the way. Razz

I think there are lighting units included in the rooms, but I'm not sure - I've only ever peeked inside the doorway quickly. XD But hey - it's for my advantage too! Razz You might be taking a pic of ME in one of those rooms!
