Camera help
Post By RainbowMoonDust. 19/07/09, 11:26 am

I got a digital camera, my first one ever in fact, a Fuji Finepix Z20 or something like that. Very Happy I've read the instructions and I'm pretty sure I understand how to use it and all but the thing is that I'm scared of stuffing up never really having worked one of these things before. pale Well aside from taking the odd photos/videos for friends and other cosplayers but I'm not sure that really counts.

I was wondering if somebody (From Christchurch) would be willing to help me out with this? I mean, to just like go somewhere and take some experimental photos and videos and maybe help me install the discs that cane with it on my computer etc. Yes I can probably do this myself but if I screw up then I probably won't know what to do so having someone there would be nice.
sweatdrop So is anybody (From Chch) willing to give me a hand with this ... please? puppyeyes Please don't volunteer if you are sick, no offence but I don't want Swine flu You will have my gratitude forver! chuu~!

What is the software that came with it? Unfortunately I'm not in Chch, but with most digital cameras the bundled software (unless they're just drivers) isn't worth much. If you want to do some proper editing you're better off getting a decent editing suite - I like Photoshop, but Gimp is also good (and free!).

First you can stuff up the pictures if you try really hard. And all cameras have their limits. But since it is digital then it costs you nothing. Just buy spare rechargeable batteries, and I have a charger if you need one.

I am not sure if people wanted one, but I was thinking in spring we should have a practical photo training session.

Thanks Angie. Smile

They put the battery in for me and I have a charger, I don't have a spare battery though.

MissEevee and Ollithia, are you guys going to the Cardboard robots thing? Because I'm going to that and if you guys are going to be there then maybe we can play around with the camera then?

Why wait until spring? Razz Of course I just want to use it now! I think most people here know how to work digital cameras so not sure if that would work but if there's enough people who need help and are willing then I can't see why not! nodnod

So it has a special battery. They last longer, but then you need to buy them special. Do check out Celltown, Colombo st, sydenham, and trademe, there are some good prices there. I just got a new charger before DnDn, with a car plug. It is so smart it solved my battery problems, but the car charger did not seem to work.

Basically two reasons for spring. 1) We seem to be busy before then, and I am busy with stuff. It would take plenty of planning and preparation too.
2) To do a practical session, using different outdoor settings to try different theories then we need reasonable weather. And between frosts and cold, and rain, etc, none of which are good for photographer, model, camera or photos.

I was thinking of using the arts center and botanical gardens, as well as a nearby hall.
And I was thinking of covering things in small sections, with a photo shoot, before we move on to the next set of theories. So we can teach basic to advanced theory, but only one theory at the time, and practice actually using it, with hand outs to take home.

Covering things from cameras, framing shots, through depth of field, the triangle (Shutter, ISO, Aperture), etc.

Now some people may not even want to learn anything, and other already know this stuff. But I plan to make it as easy as possible to learn. So what do you think.

Maybe. I plan to test it out at the next few cosplay events with the help of some cosplayers so I'll probably learn as I go along. Perhaps if by the time spring comes along and I want to learn more I'll take you up on that offer. If I don't die of hayfever first! stare
