World Cosplay Summit?

Will New Zealand ever enter the World Cosplay Summit? Think we could win? Personally, I'd love to enter!

I'd love to! One day, when we have a well-organised, cosplay-dedicated nationwide event, IT WILL HAPPEN. Oh yes.

New Zealand has talent, we, as Static said need an event that's organized enough to pick the team I think somebody said something about NZ being too small and us having to merge with aus when they enquired also. Being part of WCS is a dream of mine that will probably just stay a dream

A cosplay based event would be awesome. We could always do what Australia does with preliminary rounds around the country.
I'm actually tempted to enter the comp in Aus! *sigh*

I don't think I'd ever have the (costume making + performance) skill to participate but I'd love to see an NZ team one day and to go watch WCS (as in actually be there, in Japan). *o*

that thread, as it stands, still pretty much sums up my views about NZ entering the WCS. it's a great idea, but as tammy said, we probably need to;

a.) wait a few years for the community to grow some more.
b.) jump through all the hoops required-- i know that some of the papers involve hiring translators/interpreters/sponsors etc.
c.) have a dedicated cosplay event- something which will signal that we actually have a strong enough community to participate on the world stage.

i'm not saying there's not the talent in new zealand, but short of teaming up with australia, not much is going to happen on this front in a while (imho).

You say "Dedicated Cosplay Event" I say CosCoNZ!

There was an idea put forward that we have small Cosplay comps throughout the Country leading up to the Con and have the finals at CosCNZ to find NZ's best Cosplayers...and judging by the fact that I can't get into word anymore, I think I might put the Con off until 2011, and we could put these two together then Very Happy

And Static will have time to make Corsets for her Corset Store Stall she was just about to email me about for the Con...LOLjk

They would want New Zealand and Australia to merge entries. Atleast that's what they told me when I emailed them agggggges ago because of the first thread like this. orz

GOD I hope I have time to get that up and running...but yeah, Mel's talk about a grass roots cosplay contest is something I'd love to see happen eventually, and one of the aims I have for the SPCC is to facilitate this happening. But then I'd have to quit the committee, 'cuz I'd want to enter. XP

Lol. I wanna do an awesome WoW cosplay group one day and just dance. It would be AWESOME! Need a Tauren though, they dance the best, and look the most absurd Very Happy

Lulz. I mostly play a draenei, and she's just not as cool...but the belfs. OH THE BELFS. Actually that'd be fantastic - a bunch of WoW cosplayers bustin' out to Toxic! Oh man, I smell a skit...NOBODY STEAL MAH IDEA.

... i really want to do a pally in the judgement set. they look SO SWEET.

but yeah, for the cosconz i say get a judging panel that maybe aren't specifically cosplayers but are well versed in tailoring etc... then that means that everyone in the community can enter...

There is always the Dunedin Anime thing? Not sure how big a part CNZ will have in that?

(And you do not want to know my ultimate skit. But think it died a horrible death with the Microsoft shutting down development! Not that rich myself. If Bill would have ever gone for it!)
