Tablet recommendations? By Static. 19/06/09, 03:08 pm |
| Okay, so I'm looking at graphics tablets. I am not a graphic designer, just want one for playing with - it doesn't have to be huge, nor does it have to be fanc - just functional and reasonably reliable. And also run-able on OSX.
So, my pretties - any recommendations? Brands/models to avoid? I have had a quick look, but keep finding expensive awesome things that I want to spend my money on more. It's not going very well...HALP! |

| While I can't really recommend a specific model, anything from WACOM will never let you down. It can be a little pricier but it really is the best brand in the way of tablets |

| WACOM Bamboo can let you down though. The driver's completely crashed the big computer and I've just revived it. |

| Perhaps it was the computer? I've used every style of WACOM and have never been disappointed. |

| Nup. It's crashed the schools entire system, and this laptop too. i think it was a faulty driver disk though. Be careful with drivers, they reap. |

| The WACOM tablets are really good and the Bamboo is just as good as the intuos 3 apparently. They're reasonably priced as well, last time I noticed their prices, they were $300 or something.
However, if you don't mind the pen needing batteries or a lower resolution, a couple of other brands do tablets too. I can only think of Logitech as a brand name but there are more.
JUST DON'T GET THE DSE BRANDLESS ONES. |

| If it's for hobby, I recommend the Bamboo ones. (You can get a small size for about $130)
If you're sorta wanting one to work on heavily, I suggest the new Intuous4 series~
If you want to go cheap though, I think WACOM Graphire4... (That's around $100 for the small size)
If you REALLY want to go cheap, you can have a look at some of the Genius ones, they're about $50~$60, but their product reviews aren't so good. |

| I have a graphire4, it's tiny but it works. I had an Aiptek Hyperpen 8000U. It reeked. It was the MOST fail I've ever seen in a tablet. Even my friends' DSE no brand tablets worked better than that one. IKR.
Sora-x-Riku and shin-zo from deviantart (perhaps you know them? quite amazing arteests.. Sora-x-Riku was pyramid head at least years' AuckGeddon xD) swear by the Aiptek .. something else. 10000? All I know is it's massive, and apparently never let them down. They also hate WACOM, so.
Another friend I know had a Wacom Bamboo- she likes it well enough.
Genius' apparently blow as well, unless you like nil pressure sensitivity.
Tbh, the only problem I had with my WACOM is the drivers on Vista. They like to mess things up- you always have the onscreen keyboard if you have a password login, and it likes to make you have the note-taking thinger on the left side of the screen. And keyflicks.
But really, it's up to what you want to buy and how much you're willing to spend ._. I think I've rambled on enough here >_>;;

| I have a Genius, and I do have to press down rather hard occasionally to work. The most annoying thing about mine is that fact it lags because my computer is so slow xDD. Which is irrelivant. |

KEYFLICKS ARE ADDICTIVE. Seriously, when you learn you can go back and forth by flicking the pen one way or the other you end up trying to do that with regular mice. It kind of makes me sad... But yeah, the Tablet PC input panel is annoying. You can turn it off though, under options. It just takes ages to teach it if you have messy and inconsistent writing. |
