BRILLIANT IDEA!!! ~please help me

hello wonderful people who can give me advice!

So... I was looking for people to do for the ball we're going to hold here for CCC and I came across this picture!

so... now come the questions

1) Would it be ok if I do my own interpretation of it? I'd keep the style the same, but I would 'modernize it' (because that fabric will BREAK MY BANK ACCOUNT!!!)

2) Where would i ever start with the wings? I would love the wings to be the main focus, so of course I want to do them REALLY well

3) anyone got any handy patterns that I might be able to use? I don't mind looking... but yea any help is AWESOME!

4) What parts of this do you think I would HAVE to keep the same?

um yea, now I'm really looking forward to this! (might even do it for Auckgeddon Ball ^_^ )

For wings, have a look at firefly-path.net's wing tutorial. And have a look at upholstery fabrics for the dress - they're about the right weight, and you might strike it lucky for texture and colour :)

fran has made wings like that by just making a no. 8 wire frame and gluing organza over the top. C':

well, any wire would work... curtain wire, no 8 wire... as long as you can bend it...

it's just what she had on hand haha.

As far as I've seen, Balls allow a lot of leeway with this. You can change things as you like, and as long as you retain elements, and still have it as formal wear, then it's all gravy. Personally, I'd say go for it. It's about you making something you think is fabulous. That's what matters.

Boo boo boop. Fairy wings are simple. I think you should go get some wire from your local hardware shop, then go to the formalwear section of your local fabric shop, and find a light gauzy fabric that you like the look of, and will match your dress. Add details with paint and glitter as you see fit.

Ohhh... that's a tough one.

1) Empire waist
2) Design on the scooping neckline.
3) The 'shape' of the dress as it were
4) the colour scheme... I'd say to keep it similar.

1) Like at least you are gojng in cosplay! ~~unlike others~~
You of course have to go with what fabrics you can get. You could also ring Rod Hair and inquire of them. I should ring and inquire about them too, but have been putting it off, as I have to finish what I have got. Maybe visit them on the 4th?

2) You can actually see if you look closely that there are several wires running through the wing itself. But lighter that no 8, as they do not seem that visible, and #8 will be quite stiff to work, lighter stuff will be cheaper and still strong enough. And white if possible? I wonder if some springy wire (with white plastic coating) might be easier, or not??? I guess it gives it extra strength and that butterfly look.

Lastly everybody will have top be very careful at the ball. And if a springy wire works or could possibly fold it very carefully for packing, otherwise how are you going to get it to auckland?

4) As well as the above there are the expanded sleeves at the elbow, and the ends over the hands. The underskirt/overskirt combo, and general shape. You would be lucky to get exact the same colors, but they must compliment each other. And a few lace/knit whatever aroung the neckline. Other than the detials it should fairly basic???? Like I am one to talk thou

Good I was wondering how you were going to fit those wings into a suitcase! Found this: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5444.htm?tab=list/costumes&page=all and thought it was similar! It's the only thing I've seen in the major pattern companies that you can get here. This is the thing I love - finding patterns to fit with ideas!

EDIT: Also think the white one in this http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5444.htm?tab=list/costumes&page=all (I know someone already pointed it out but still). I also have a link on my own comp somewhere that'll show you how to get your hair like that (so a friend could do it they know how to french braid).

No worries! That's the fun and easy part - next you have to get the fabric/trims and then make the stupid thing (I call it stupid cause it is while you make it but once it's done it's the best ever!)!

Ah yes ^_^;

Though I do love fabric shopping~~~ Being able to justify touching EVERY FABRIC in the store = win

and i shall look forward to making it because i hope it take's my sewing skills one step further ^_^
~~I just wish i could do it for ACB T.T it would be so epic if i could get the wings up there!~~
