| Just finished Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers on Wii.
VERY engaging story, best bit of the game for me. Beautiful graphics, lots of FF fan service and 'in jokes', great voice work and VERY likable characters (seriously, love having upbeat JRPG characters instead of angst for a change!) Music is a bit hit-and-miss, some of it is forgettable but then some can be like, some of the best in the entire franchise.
Example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWPjdUj-JNE
I say the good overshadows the bad. That is the best rendition of the FF theme I've heard in any game. You can't help but want to adventure after hearing that!
BUT
Now the but,
I dunno, the gameplay just felt off. Its a weird one. By no means a 'traditional' FF game, a fan expecting that will not be happy. But those in the know should already understand the Crystal Chronicles games (which I'm a big fan off) have never been the norm.
Picking stuff up and throwing it around is fun for a bit but because the battles are timed it never feels like you can fully explore the mechanics, its just more annoying than fun because you know you need to rush, and that is never a good sign. Basically you find an area full of bad guys and you have to defeat them all to get your prize but you have a certain time to do so, and if you don't the remaining ones vanish and you have to wait around till they attack again if you want that power up. There are accessories you can get to extend the time you have at least.
I didn't have a problem with the 'mini games' part of it, they break up the other stuff and some of them are fun.
Its a game I really wanted to like, simply because of all the good stuff above, but the battle system just never really clicked for me. I hope they get to make a sequel and can work on that, because the good parts of the game REALLY were good. |

| ^ I actually enjoyed the battle system in the game a lot. Experimenting with the different things you could do in battle, like fusing two monsters by throwing them into each other, or ripping parts off monsters kept things interesting, and I never felt the time limit to be much of an issue. |

Thats the thing that annoyed me most of all, because like you said experimenting with the different combinations is fun, but because of the limit I never felt I could fully explore it. >_< I think if the battle just went on till you died or till you had defeated all the enimes (or maybe a run away thing) it would have been much better.
Oh forgot one of the coolest other features of the game.... being able to take screen shots at ANY point (even CS) in the game and save it to your SD card! As someone who has taken thousands (seriously) of screen shots through-out his FFXI years, I think EVERY game should have that function!!!!! Crystal Bearers was no different, got a whole folder of screen shots now lol.

I am almost finished with collecting the Gold coins. <3 Nice! My OCD tendencies are a pain with things like that haha, that and The Broken Bond got me good in that sense. I always obsess about collecting everything. Like green orbs in Crackdown.

| I think the time limit got me once or twice, and it doesn't really make sense to have it in there, but I don't mind it xDD. And the screenshot thing is amazing. Have so many of them now >_<
EDIT: I HATED THE LACK OF A USEFUL MAP. The signposts are frequent, but I think a decent map would have boosted the experience that little bit further. |

| Atelier Iris. I really like the variety of different things you can do in it, like synthesizing, extracting elements, forging as well as battles, shopping and quests and stuff. I also like the variety of attacks each character has too. It's getting annoying fighting Beggur though, had him at least twice as a boss now, lol and I don't like it when a character decides to leave your party. (They come back ... eventually ... Arlin! *Sobs*) But good characters and humour too, it's a fun game. Even if it does seem to have an endless amount of quests before you finally get to the main ones, your main purpose etc |

I have this problem too in Atelier Iris as it has no map, just signposts, lol, it's kind of annoying, I got lost once! Now I use a guide to remind me where to go as I sometimes forget Some of the bosses are kind of easy too which is a bit disappointing but it's still a good game. |

OMG yes the no map thing in CB bugged me to no end. I kept getting lost (doesn't help the game is so open, don't offer much in the way of directional help), then would press start or w/e to bring up a map like you normally would in a game forgetting there was no real map thing lol, I still kept doing it though without thinking, just cause there is meant to be a map there in games damnit!
A radar thing would have been nice too, like a mini map on screen showing where there are paths in the current room/area etc.
Not as bad as having no real map though! Aggh never realised how annoying no map is in games till they don't have one in a game that really needs it. '
You can't even read the signposts on a Chocobo I don't think lol. WTF were they thinking? |

Five hours in and it's already way more fun than the first one. More action, but with the same amount of roleplaying/dialogue/character interaction. YES.
To Tammy and Zephyr; give time for the hype surrounding MW2 to die down and you'll get less people being total Richard. Hopefully 8D |

Odin Sphere is possibly one of the most beautiful games on the PS2 I have ever played. I loved every moment of it.
