| You wouldn't have to teach the class/es, just sort out the lesson plans and amount in each class, and anything else you would deem needed for the classes.
as you say, this would be a good indication on the ins and outs of what works...and even if some things don't we can always fix them some how...lol

@SilkSpectre; If this went well enough I'd love to help out with that aspect... But really, I'm no expert at all... So they might not go well... //paranoid =o=" But this would be on a much smaller scale~ It would be a good indication of what works when teaching and what doesn't! C: STEVE AND JACKSAN WILL BE THERE?
I'M IN.
xD
But in all seriousness, yeah, this sounds perfect~ if it goes well, maybe I'll even buy that sewing machine Valska has for sale lol. |

| Just to clarify, is the plan for this strictly tutorial (ie everyone making the same thing, more like a classroom type enviroment) or will it be more like 'So, this is what I want to do, can you show me the basic skills and tools I'll need to achieve this?' |

Also, if this one is successful, would there possibly be another in the holidays before Armageddon? |

Re: Cosplay workshop/Learn to sew || This weekend!!!!!! By Duckeh. 17/05/09, 05:55 pm |
| AHhhh~ It'll be something like this-
- Will start off with tutorials for sewing basics... But not actually making anything... Just teaching things you use to make sugar honey iced tea.
- Small construction tutorial~ For something basic. I'm thinking a zip bag~ So we can show how to sew a zip & possibly pleats & lining.
- Then after that will start to show how you can use commercial patterns~
- Have a short thing about asking what you'd need for your costume.
- We'd probably take a break here and go to the fabric shop, if we do intend on doing that. To purchase fabric for said costumes~
- Then we begin on everyone sewing their own thing.
Which is why we probably will need two days to get a nice start on thee costumes.
@Rikki- I was thinking so, yeah~ C:
Edit: that sounds really dull~ But I'm sure we could make it interesting. xD |

| Cool. Cause I'd probably need one before Geddon.
I'd fail with the tutorial parts though. /knows how to do that stuff, does it a different way because it's easier for her. >.> |

Re: Cosplay workshop/Learn to sew || This weekend!!!!!! By neimhaille. 17/05/09, 07:14 pm |
| The cheapest option ever is the Laingholm Hall. It's $100 for a day (midday to 11pm on Staurday all day Sunday I think), another $100 deposit which is refunded) regardless of numbers and it is a nice big hall. There is a kitchen and an upstairs area too. Lots of seats available and a few rostra. Not sure about power points but there should be enough for machines and other pwer tools.
I would be more inclined to suggest people billet (ie host someone for a night) to keep costs down as anywhere to stay over night starts getting too pricey and you will have to find a huge deposit. The SCA do a lot of weekend long events and even with the numbers of people we have to spread the cost.. it's pretty expensive. And camps tend to get booked out fairly far in adance. meal plans are another thing to have to think about when you do a full weekend, but two days means all you need to think about is supplying tea and hot chocolate (milk and sugar included it winds up being a begligible cost to attendees). Maybe a couple of packet of biscuits and you could then ask for a gold coin donation to off set costs. And people can bring a plate or their own food.
I've just been doing a series of workshops myself and it is surprising how much can be done in a very limited time. |

| I'll look into that hall then. It sounds good. C:
Hrmmm... True. It's just transporting all the stuff both days. But then again, a little set up and hauling around of things is to be expected. If I was to do the overnight thing, regardless of where we were I would've sorted out transport to the shops and back for meals, that would just be too much for me to handle... Especially ontop of the Auckland cosplay ball. Eeek. But yeah, that sounds logical.
Thanks for the advice~ <3 |

| You can leave things in the hall over night :) In September last year we had a big theatrical event (1604 musical) left the hangings up and used them the next day. Actually they were used across three days, plus the rehersals.
People can bring their own food. Easy, especially given the sheer number of people with food intolerances out there, it's better for this sort of thing.
Unless someone wants to do say a soup kitchen. Or order in pizza. Titirangi village also has a supermarket and is on the way, what ever direction you go in you have to go through the village. One stop with a shopping list (make sure people pre-pay). It's about 10 mins away from the hall.
We do a lot of events there because it is a really easy hall to adapt for everything from a big feast to a big theatre to a court to hold a mock trial.... |
