So, a glowing bow :0? By Cassiel. 08/04/09, 03:22 pm |
| A bad picture of the bow
So, wanna make this but glowing. Reflective Vinyl has been suggested, but I don't know whether it'll glow in the con or not, or whether it'll just appear blue, in which case I might as well not make it.
Anyone have any knowlege?
1) Reflective tape (light blue in the con but WOAH CRAZY glow in photos and low light -as might be on the main stage-) 2) Fluro paint with a UV light 3) Clear resin with LEDs.

| Um...fibreoptics? If you could cast the bow in clear resin or something, you'd be able to insert LEDs or whatnot. Of course you'd need some kind of engineer to get it all sorted...hm. Phosphorous paint? UV paint? Fluro stuff should be good - if you had a hand-held UV light (Jaycar usually have them) secreted sneakily on your person, thatd be a cool effect. |

| I thought about LEDs, but I have no idea how to cast it in clear resin. The effect looks amazing though. Engineer? JPPPP!!!! Ah, fluro with a UV light would be awesome~ |

| for the effect you want the only problem with led's i can see if trying to get an even spread of light.
I was thinking el wire might do the trick, but when I was searching came accross this stuff to: http://www.allwaze.co.nz/glow_wire.htm
You'd need to power it, but depending on the power consumption could be an option.
Edit: or this is probably better - includes controller, and 4 foot long, which is probably about right. http://www.allwaze.co.nz/techno_strobe.htm
Edit2: Or these kinds of things, the strip looks interesting. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Components/Cases-power-supplies/Cases/auction-211178846.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Components/Cases-power-supplies/Cases/auction-211178842.htm

| What about painting your bow with glow in the dark (or "photo-luminous glow") paint?
There are paints which the glow can last over 24 hours and look clear in daylight, or there are other which are one colour in the day, an glow a diferent colour in the dark. |

| hrm.... i hadn't thought about paints, but it's another interesting idea. if they're more blue-tinged reflective in bright light and luminous in darker areas it'd be quite a nice effect, and no batteries.
ReiSilverfang: hehe, guess you got more ideas to play with now. |

| Paint sounds good. Just beware that some of these advanced paints are mixed to order, and will come in a minimum quantity. So it may cost a bit. If a paint shop does not do it try an automotive paint shop. Another alternative is reflective or retro-reflective tape. You could get these from safety shops; I have seen them at car parts shops; maybe hardware stores? But be warned that these may be very strongly reflective under light, much more so than they look at first, especially the retro-reflective ones. A camera flash on a retro-reflective surface will wash out the photo. Highlander |
