Poems
By Rowan. 05/05/09, 01:44 pm |
| Meh I've recently handed in my poem section for my Creative Writing paper, and since no one else is ever gonna see them, I might as well post them here. I would say no guarantees for the quality, but we were taught not to add disclaimers like that for our work :3
Watcher
There she is again
Long dark hair framing
A pale oval face
Stark under the harsh street lights
This time she is wrapped
In a cute noir greatcoat
Cinched tight at the waist
And her long legs are clad –
I frown, annoyed
She has passed into shadow
The stretch of street between
One lamp post and the next
I twitch the curtains
And strain my eyes;
I worry, the darkness
Contains many a danger
The lights flick on suddenly
Framing me against the window
Turning my gaze upon myself
As the glass switches to a dark mirror
My gentle frown returns
Then I nod in decision –
I turn to deal with my wife
With a thoughtful last glance at the street
But all I see is a
Sickly face in the window’s reflection
Eyes bright with purpose
He’ll Be Fine
You are 13 years old,
So you shrug it off
And turn to your room, your haven,
As your father stumbles to his.
‘Heatstroke, maybe’, he says
He’ll be fine
You are riding in an ambulance;
It would be fun,
But you are alone
With your father in the back
He’ll be fine
You are sitting next to a hospital bed
Clutching a clipboard
You try to focus on the form,
And when your father does not answer
You are surprised
He’ll be fine
You are 13 years old,
So you shrug it off
Even though you father is still away.
He lives of course,
You were never quite able to imagine otherwise,
So he’ll be fine
Won’t he?
Park Street Gallery
There is a room in Westminster
That he calls a gallery –
A treasure trove of ancient art
On display for those with the privilege to enter.
He surrounds himself with the ancient;
Static marble statues
Carelessly cluttering the floor
And scattered across the writing desks.
He and his associates are educated men
With an appropriate appreciation of fine art –
But their faces are turned away
From the rich history around them.
They study their books
And have their deep discussions
Content with the importance
The atmosphere bestows upon them.
In the Park Street Gallery –
An ambitious name for what is
In truth merely a scholar’s study,
History is stagnant.

I don't claim to be an expert...
But these are amazing~ No need for any disclaimers here, I assert.
I don't read alot of poetry, most of it is just too damnably obscure. But these, I love them~ Reads more like a story.
But despite that, I think the last one was my favorite. Probably just the theme of it, it sort of struck a chord with me. |

| Wow I have to say I wasn't actually expecting anyone to read them XD
Duckeh: yay!~ Thankies
Creature: That's a very high compliment :) I have to say I wasn't that much a fan of poetry, but I have a bit more of an appreciation now doing this course. I'm glad they read like a story. The last one was based on a painting I found in my Greek Art texbook, and it really struck me how all the famous greek statues were randomly cluttered in the room, and the guys in it weren't even looking at them.
Itachiladas: Thank you! I'm happy the second one makes you feel that way (as bizzare as that sounds lol) as it's a true story, so I'm glad my emotions got across :) Now back to writing that short story that's due tomorrow at 9. It's only half finished D'OH |

| Heh, I tell it like I see it is all.
Ah but this, this is a story I know well~ I got my marks back for an assignment I did in the evening before the due date today, 87%, rocking~
Not really sure what to be saying...not good luck at least. Usually I'd say good hunting, but that doesn't work either. Well fark. Go for it, don't let us distract you~ |

| Very nice , they are good quality i made a poem for you too. i call it:
My Inferiority
As i read these poems i begin to think and slowly grim realization takes its steely grip
putting 4 words on each line, really doesnt make a poem all that fine. so once again i take the time slowly breaking into rhyme
Rowan's words are more like art, compared to mine which make you fart.
