half an hour ago i just noticed some thing really weird, that i must RIGHT NOW!!!! AT ONCE!!!!!!!! broad cast to the world. ahem.

okay. so it's not that important........
well, i waas just thinking about random anime stuff, when all of a sudden, i realised something

have any of you noticed the number of anime older brothers who resemble girls?!current list
sesshomaru: inuyasha
itachi: naruto
envy: FMA
masashi: me and my brothers
ayame: fruits basket

and i havn't mentioned the ones that have long hair/ponytails....

incidentally, why do they name so many manga/anime after the main character?!

another strange thing is that the main character's rival often seems to be a dark haired, fire-wielding bastard...................(pardon language lol!

)

do the authors know that they're doing these things?
is it a coincidence? :scratch:
is it a conspiracy? :affraid:

He has a younger (adoptive) sister?

Vayne from FFXII is an older brother of a guy and he looks like a girl. But he's from a game... Does he count?

The reason so many are named after the main character is because that's what people've been doing since the beginning of time. Everywhere in the world.

It's a convention in naming. It's the cheapskate way of naming series and books and manga and shows.

It's like, the stereotypical stuff.

Naming the main character as same as the title makes it easier for people to remember the title and series, I guess.

Traditional Japanese plays (Kabuki) often follow similar storylines and use similar types of characters so the audience will immediately recognise who a character is and what their relationship with others/their role in the story is. You see the same in Western Media as well. Think of horror movies: there're MILLIONS of these things in horror movies. Look at dracula films: Dracula always has a slow, drawling voice with a thick accent (established by Bela Lugosi in Dracula (1931)), wearing archaic, upper class dark clothing, while the hero will be in light coloured clothing, and typically naive. The heroine will have a psychic connection with Dracula, and in instinctual understanding of the supernatural. She will sacrifice herself to save her loved one (the hero), though whether or not she actually dies depends on the original film.

The Authors will do these things intentionally, so as to make the piece more easily understandable for the audience. Also, if the audience feels that they already "know" a character, they'll be more likely to develop a deeper connection with the character, thus making the story more successful.
