Dunedin Photoshoot

okay well this always fails whenever i try to organize something cosplay related down here, but i was thinking that at least, some of the more serious cosplayers that i know would like to do a proper, professional photoshoot. well, as professional as we can take photos of ourselves, i guess.

I WAS THINKING of locations, and came up with maybe;

- signal hill lookout- good scenery though the weather needs to be good
- glenfalloch out @ the peninsula
- mt cargill lookout
- botanical gardens, i guess?

i have a car and am able to transport four people other than me. probably gunning for sometime near the end of april/may.

Hey I'm actually quite interested in this, was thinking that I could use this as my debut into cosplay. Been thinking about doing cosplay like 5-6 years ago but now I have a little bit of extra cash and time.

Just have a few questions, where on earth do I start? lol
I've got a character in mind, but where do I get the materials in Dunners, what tools will I need? It's just all so over whelming lol
Are there templates for clothing I can use?

Yea What I mean is I'm lost and would like some hints, tips or help starting off.

well, that's a pretty broad area but i'll do my best to help, haha. C:

for fabric etc. the main places in dunedin you can go to get them is spotlight (just off of the one way system going towards andersons bay), fabric barn (next to the poolhouse, near the town library), anne's fabric barn (inside harvest court on george st) & some other hobby shops. but that's pretty much the only places i go to.

as for tools, it really depends. if you're feeling adventurous you could handsew your cosplay, but that takes both immense amounts of time and dedication. most people use sewing machines to sew theirs together. C:

as for 'templates', most cosplayers use patterns that you can find at the fabric stores and alter them to your needs, though if you're a beginning sewer i don't recommend altering patterns in the first thing you make. just look for something that looks close enough to what you want and roll with that. C:

This is pretty close to what I want, but I'd have breaks in the white lines so it's not a solid white line but more like centimeters of white 1cm break then 1cm of white again, if that makes any scene :think:

Hmm, If I was to make this myself how would I go about making that logo on it?

I know it's meant to be a uniform, but I wanna make it out of something more casual like black denim so I can use it not just for cosplay, but for everyday use.

And yep I was just thinking of and sewing it if it's possible since I cant get my hands on a sewing machine.

Ps. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so if I'm gonna do it I'll have to do it right

i'd say fabric painting would be the easiest way to do it, unless you have access to a screenprinting machine or something, haha.

just as a note, denim is very thick and difficult to handsew... you even need special needles to sew denim on a sewing machine. C: but it's not impossible.

Back on the topic of photoshoots, I reckon outside St Paul's Cathedral is a great place for photos after the many photos we took there at DAE.

Chinese Gardens are also a nice place if your cosplay matches the setting.

It's funny cause I've cosplayed while teaching students in my lab. Although that's just me, I have a distinct lack of care on what people think of my appearance.
