No cosplay competition, 'event' only

So I went into GNC today to see if I could get a table for the con to sell my 'goth lollies' (look them up on trade me!!) and besides practically being told no right off the bat because they have nothing to do with anime/manga, to which I replied that it has to do with the culture, fashion trends and media of Japan to which he said he'd ask the toher coordinators about it, I found out there is no competition.

Not only is the site very misleading with it's lack of details, but he was very very rude to me, even though I had to go in b/c his email is broken.. >.<

Due to this I'm about to boycot the event in protest, in costume...

Anyone else with me?

fweh thats strange i didnt think seong would be that rude ...

and as for there being no cosplay competition ... meh though this is tactless because i am completely useless at using tact

i don't really mind there's always auckgeddon for me ... and i enjoy cosplay events even if there are no competitions

so this is just my opinion ... but i never thought seong would be so rude XP

I think DO should be more about the art anyway :3

Just wanna put out there, we all have our bad days... So yeah... Sometimes we can't always act as professional as expected when under emotional stress... ;D

Anyway- Did you mean to sell them at a table by themselves or have other stuff with them? O-o

Well, that's all I'd have on my part of the table, I was hoping to share W/ JVCA and Aurellion but that may not happen as the things we'd be selling aren't art int he traditional sense

Because for someone like me, at least, who's less inclined to spend money on Doujinshi (...or anything, lol), and was looking forward to the event almost purely for the contest, it's pretty much taken out all the point of going.

Not to mention we already had our group sorted out, and I've already bought about 20m of fabric, not to mention all the pattern's I've bought as well.

EDIT: In regards to what Val said - exactly: no offence to anyone here, but if I just wanted to look at fan art, I would just stay at home and muck around on deviantart. =\

No, it's not just for Doujinshi, it can be anything manga related, so as far as I'm concerned that's not just Doujinshi.

The thing is... I don't find cosplay to be about the contest more about the socialising.... So if you don't believe it's worth it just to hang out with other people~ EH.

Oh well... Alot of people from the forum have tables at DO and are actually pretty impressive artists, I won't be standing outside protesting... I'll be supporting the people who are actually fricken awesome artists && are trying to get themselves out there.

Sad about you buying fabric, but thee cosplay can always be reused? D:

Maybe it's just that I'm a pessimist, but all I've seen so far of DO and what it holds in store is about 20 minutes of wandering round, and then leaving. And it's all well and good to say it's about the socialising - afterall, that was what acp was all about - but at the end of the day, everyone's gunna be all over the place, with their tables, and there'll be no socialising during the event because you guys will actually need to talk to customers. Kind of like how saturday of geddon was weird because everyone was running off doing their own thing. And then how sunday was great because everyone was all together.

This is like the same thing - I'll still probably come to the after-thing (MCDONALDS FTW.) (like the sunday of auckgeddon), but DO itself (like the saturday)... well, I'm just not sure if it's worth it anymore...

Having said that, I'm all for being persuaded. And I'm not one to do a protest because I've been slighted - rather, it's like going to a knitting convention and finding out that they're no longer doing the one seminar you were interested in. (Lol, I tried to steal your analogy and failed. xD)

Thing is about the artists though - I'm so stingy when it comes to this sort of thing, and so out of the manga loop as well, that it's really not going to amount to much for me. I hold no ill wishes for the artists involved - in fact, I wish them all the best. It's just, well, no reason to go anymore. Ridiculously enough, I'd be more inclined to buy 'real' art (that sounds horrible! I don't mean it that way, there's just no other term I can think of!) than manga/anime type art, even though the quality may be amazing.

And it's frustrating more than anything, because it's not just the fabric, it's the $60 wig, and the $30 shoes, and the fabric probably added up to $60 at least... And DO was really the only time this year when I could wear it -- not to mention that, as stated previously, this costume was almost purely for the group we'd organised.

More than anything else, if they'd known they weren't having a competition, they should've taken it off the website. It's irresponsible to leave it there - and it's not like they're not updating the website either. < /rant>

I could have told u it wasn't a comp but i'll talk it over with Macy, last time i asked her she said she didn't want it to be to much like a contest as in making ppl feel like they suck XD

Doujin Overload wasn't made for Fashion it was made to help get NZ Doujinshi/manga style artists out there and to help spread the word...

Thats really odd Seong would act like that mayb just timing or somthing...

O3o.. very very hard to imagine seong being rude... i literally have been going there everyday after class for the last couple of weeks... O3o... signed up table.. had alot of questions and also wanted to put all of the group together... i felt i was frustrating myself.. xDD but he was kool.. *shrugs*.. and we would have some conversation sometimes... and we started mocking my friend crossdressin xDDD he laughed and joined in... O3o.. all i did was buy coffee and sat there till it closed at 8.. lol..xD nothing seemed wrong to me???... O3o... must've caught him on a bad day..?!

xDD anyways yea.. there isnt a competition... only a "show and display event thingie xDD"

and yea.. u cant sell any thing that you didnt make/design.. O3o.. if u made the dress and all that'd be different... theres a lot of animes with goth loli costumes in them so if u did made one.. u could find a character who has a similar dress and claim that its his/her costume...xDDD exPLOiT

Talked to Macy but i didn't wanna be all annoying with the comp thing she is unsure at the moment but last year was just a test run this year is meant to be for real AKA a comp. we talked about a ppls vote comp so i think there might be a good chance in a cosplay comp, my vote go's to the Tokyo mew mew group MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA or myself Yeah cos i can do that

i go to gnc alot and i'm always with the people that go there (i.e. aoa dan) who go there alot as well so kind of hard to believe that seong was rude XP

but either way the doujinshi at DO is really good

last year when i went i didn't expect to spend anything but i ended up footing over $60 on doujinshi because it was so awesomely drawn =3

EDIT: i ended spending the entire time there threathening Daryll because he was futilely trying to sell me a Gundam I did not want because i've never watched gundam XD

Yeah - Val's goth lollies are actually like, lollies you stick in your hair, which she designs and makes herself. They aren't from anime/manga specifically, which is probably the problem, but they're a lolita style accessory, and we thought they'd sell well at DO because (presumably) a lot of girls with a lolita-interest would attend.

It does sound odd that he'd be rude to one person out of so many - by any chance is he anti-american? Because Val is american, and her accent is pretty strong still, so that would explain it. Or at least, that's what we've been wondering...

I appear to have gotten the wrong end of the stick: I was under the impression that the cosplay thing was cancelled altogether, rather than it being a 'show and tell' sort of thing instead of a competition. Can anyone tell me what the 'event' involves? But yeah, given my understanding that it'd been called off altogether, you can understand why I, at least, was so upset.

Macy has to go over her ideas with seong,,, She is even willing to sponsor the cosplay event so it can become a comp. I'll say just leave it at that but then im not the kind to try and bug ppl about stuff XD Also guys !!!REGISTER!!! it wont matter if it changers from a event/Photoshoot to a comp...

Also if u have any ideas that u want me to talk to her about just say so and i'll Text her or something im sure u could also send her an Email(might be best)... Iv been over the certificate thing with her but you know it all comes down to Seong in the end XD
