| I go opshopping. Get basically what I need, then just alter it slightly to fit the exact outfit. I made my entire Tifa outfit that way. |

| Depends on the costume really. O: Some costumes are easier to mod from regular clothing than others. Do you have any refs of what you want to make? |

| I dont really know anymore . Eddy Gordo is easy. Just shorts and shirt :p. but thats cheap lol.
Theres always Auron, and i could always template that to make Vincent clothes.
I dont know really. not many guys i wont kill when i dress as em -_- (should i poll on who i should do?) |

| Lol. That Eddy Gordo sounds easy enough to opshop for, considering I don't have a clue what he looks like.
Auron may be a bit of a stretch though, as is Vincent. /: Heavy modding probably required, maybe heavy enough to warrant you make it from scratch anyway. |

Thats one attire. The other that was really cheap was purple jersy and black shorts :p.
Hmm well, what about the guy in my DP? |

I reckon you could mod the pants and the inner shirt, but the vest might be tricky to find. You'd have to make that yourself or commission it, I think. The boots also are not... of a common find in shops. Bootcovers would do the trick. |

| Making your own cosplay:
Pros: You feel proud that you, yourself made your own costume People are in awe of you "Wait. You mean. YOU made it? *gasp* Wow! Wow!" etc. Most of the time its cheaper as you only have to pay for the materials. You can just buy normal clothes and modify them to fit your cosplays (I consider this also in the making category lol) You learn how to sew! So you can make your own clothes and lol~ Most cosplay competitions require you to make at least 70% of your cosplay. Cons: If you don't know how to sew, it can be hard for the first time but once you make more clothes it gets so easy~ Making props are harder (But I seem to enjoy making the props more than the actual sewing XD) Sometimes it can be really hard to find the right materials, thread, etc Time is an issue
Buying (or commissioning) your own cosplay:
Pros: Save time If you don't know how to sew, then this will probably be an okay option. But if you never try, you'll never succeed Cons: You don't feel as good as when you're cosplaying in your own self made costume (imo) Its possible buying the costume will be more expensive
My conclusion and opinion: I prefer to make my costumes since I'm an attention whore. I love it when people go "No way~ You made it? Not buy?" Yes~~~ But it varies amongst people. |

| Lolimagejustloaded. I reckon you could get a green top and a yellow top and splice it together then paint the text on the front. Same goes for the pants. But you mentioned you suck at sewing? I say just try? :3 I only started sewing last year-- small things like a hat and armwarmers and paw-sock-things for my umbreon cosplay, then I worked my way up to a kimono + pre-tied obi for my espeon cosplay this year. Granted, kimonos are just straight lines anyway.... |

Re: BEtter to buy or make? By Rikashiku. 08/03/09, 02:34 pm |
| Actually i've known how to sew since i was 4. Its just paying attention and sticking to a project that sucks me down to wanting to buy :p.
I made teddy bears afew years back. God knows if they're still alive as they got sold.
I should ask god if they're alright.....Tammy! D:.
back on topic- I suck at sticking to a project is all :p. sewing is simple...oh and the fact my family wont take to nicely to me sewing for a hobby :p. |

Re: BEtter to buy or make? By Guest. 08/03/09, 02:41 pm |
| Hahaha. It took me two months to make the kimono where it should have taken me only a week, max. >_> I kept procrastinating, and ended up finishing it only like.. seven hours before my flight back to NZ. all my packing was done just after I finished oTZ.
And good point on the family thing. /: Uh. Is there any way you could sew without them finding out? Or just explain that sewing doesn't make you any less manly? Spew some junk about being able to fix your own clothing once you start living on your own? |

| Whoa! lucky timing. is it? damn i cant even pay attention to a reading topic lol.
Umm i was able to keep it secret last month. But now they come home so early . I could probably tell em i'd always wanted my own clothing. I did tell my mom that i wanted to do so last year. but we never got around to it -_0.
Hmm dunno. Well, im joining LSV next month so i could say that its for that. kinda. probably wont believe me. |

| Nah. It was my mom hounding me to finish it, paired with the fear of having to handsew the entire damn thing that got me working at it for the last three days before my flight. Haha.
Haha. Take any excuse you can get? XD |

Auron and Vincent dont look that complex. I have a shirt similar to the coats, just not the right colour and not long enough. maybe if i were a foot shorter it'd work. |

| I think you'd be able to make an Auron or Vincent cosplay in that time xD.
Auron is alot more complicated than Vincent though, IMO. |

Re: BEtter to buy or make? By Guest. 08/03/09, 04:09 pm |
| Lol.
Well, if you compare them to what I have cosplayed and what I have planned, they're a fair bit more advanced. Plus I'm a perfectionist, and I'm planning to cosplay Vincent at one point, so I've got little things jotted down, like the shape of the buckles on his coat, the fact his shirt only has one column of buttons and doesn't have a white/silver edge to that panel as I'd first though, and look like they're made of some leathery-type of material (holy crap, and he fights in that?) plus the fact anyone cosplaying him would probably need shoulderpads for the cloak. D8 Plus Cerberus looks like fun to make. Lots of fun. Hm.

| Alot more complicated.
Vincent: Cape. Gloves. Boots. Headband.
Auron: Too much Dx.
Auron's costume is very, very cool though. |

Re: BEtter to buy or make? By Guest. 08/03/09, 04:17 pm |
| @Pura One glove. And then there's the claw. And the holster on his right hip which would be a paaaaain to keep up, thank goodness for the belt that loops around his waist and ohoho cheatingtiems, hook it into one of the beltloops. All the belts and buckles he wears makes me cringe lol.
For some reason I keep thinking of Auron with DiZ's coat on dskjfhdsk you know, the one with the funky cutting on the front?
ETA: @Rika ... I don't think you could call Auron basic. I still think his costume is a bit fiddly. And it's the little details you'd have to think of as well. Sometimes, little details can make or break a costume. oTZ Or take it from average to epic awesome.

| Well, I don't like Final Fantasy much, so I was going by image in my head of Vincent xD. And I meant the claw thing when I said gloves xD. Ahh well.
And Auron's image of my head is 'red, glasses, sling' xDD. Which was why the description was vauge xDDDD. |
