| I'd rather not, the World Cosplay Summit is perpetually plagued by corruption (pre-determined winners by sponsers) and controversy. The people that have 'competed' have claimed they were informed who the 'winner' was and still expected to attend, other years they weren't told outright but rather press attention/professional make-up artists/photographers were all given from the start to the ones that would win. The cosplayers themselves are treated contemptuously. People have been selected to attend the summit, only to find out they've been rejected as the artist doesn't like cosplayers (This happened to people cosplaying Rose of Versailles).

| Wrong sub forum.
Also, there was a thread on this a long while ago in which I emailed them. They thought in order for us to join we'd have to join with Australia & the best from Australia/New Zealand would proceed to the World Cosplay Summit.
So I would think in order for us to get that far we'd have to have con organizers talk to each other... But yeah... I have heard of how corrupted it is. ;-;
Kinda saddening. |

| You guys make a fair point about the corruption and stuff but thats not really what were saying here. WINNING isnt a big deal. Who cares whether we win or not. The point is it would still be a great experience to just go and participate in it. To get to go to Japan and do that, and for a hobby ^.^ Plus I think the Australia + NZ thing would be a bit silly cause I think its obvious and likely that it would be biased and the people who get to go would always be from Aussie. So I think New Zealand should have as fair a chance as anyone else to enter as an individual country. Just my opinion though. |

| new zealand's cosplay community is too small to enter into the WCS as it is now... i think i said this in the other thread too, but the other countries that enter have far bigger & more established communities to back them up.
kinda sucks, but nz is still in it's infancy as far as cosplay is concerned. >:
that aside, there are plenty of opportunities to cosplay in japan without being at WCS, as i know quite a few people go to their various cons over there (comiket etc.) |

Which would be why we didn't follow it up. >.< As an individual country, we're just too small. :\ I mean, I wish we weren't, but we just are.
We had a rather large thread with all the arguments for & against...
I feel like I'm repeating myself. x.x |

| @duckeh; yeah, i agree... i figure the best bets are just to go overseas to a normal (or giant con... comiket has something like 150,000 attendees) and cosplay there. i mean, you'd probably have more fun, and they have contests too? |

| comiket would be awesome especially if youre a camwhore and an attention whore ... so many people =D seong's vision for DO is like a mini comiket hence we have no cosplay competition only an event and at comiket its usually divided into cosplay area and doujinshi area =3 and crap you can go cosplay on sunday in harajuku and shinjuku and no one would look funnily at you XD as my friends who have lived in japan have said "you have been in japan long enough when you can completely and utterly ignore what the person next ot you is doing" heh |

| This topic has already been done (To be specific, I had already proposed the idea of trying to enter NZ into CWS) But as everyone above have said, its been tried and it did not succeed. :/ It can't be denied that New Zealand's cosplaying community is just way too small. I think we should wait for a few more years before contacting the organisers again. I'm trying to find the old thread but I think it got deleted during the pruning accident OTL;; |

| No~ That's silly. You guys have ideas, you may as well try work them through. n.n Talk to Bill about contacting Australian cons etc. see if they're interested in taking our finalist to vs their finalists. Or even try & evoke initial interest by yourselves. If you guys want to do this, don't be put down by us, neh? :3
It's just~ At the moment we wouldn't stand much chance of entering as an individual nation. >.<
But just because we're being all negative, doesn't mean you guys have to play along with us~ |
