| And you can buy the ink from Art Supplies. www.artsupplies.co.nz You can get a student discount there, too.
[sigh] now if only this worked as well for my Etna wig.. @_@ |

| Hey guys, where does one obtain rubbing alcohol? I was told Dick Smith's at one point, but when I asked they looked at me like I had two heads. |

| Chemist. Rubbing Alcohol is Isopropyl (pron. iso - pro - pul) Alcohol. DSE might have it but it's easier to get it from the chemist. They normally only sell little 50ml bottles for about $4 each, but if you give them a good reason (ie: not making drugs), then they can bring in special order 500ml bottles for about $17 or so. |

| It was really easy - all we had to do was spray the colour on, lol. Keep in mind that this wig took about 300ml of rubbing alcohol, so if you're doing anything longer, you'll need to make more up. I got mine from Jen's dad, lol - apparently it's a byproduct of home-brew alcohols, so if you know anyone who makes their own liquor, ask them about it. :3 |

| hrm.. never heard of it been a byproduct of home brew before. It's certainly not drinkable at any rate. |

| LOL. Definitely not. Jen's Dad says he usually throws most of it out, but keeps some of it for its various uses in computer fixer-upping etc. |

yep...think it was the word 'isopropyl' that made the store peeps look at me so weird lol. "....chick knows that word? O_O!!" tossers. Cheers though! I just bought a blue wig and some extensions that I suspect are not quiiiite the same colour...so there'll be a little bit of experimentation involved when they arrive. |

| Lol.. Not making drugs >8D
I'm definitely gonna use this for my wigs this year. It's just getting the alcohol that might be a little problematic o_0
Dammit, why dont' I know anyone that makes their own liquor?? |

| I don't think you get ispropyl from mead, so I'm not sure if a mead brewer would work... |

| They don't seem to make it shiny - it just changes colour. :3 If you WANT to make it shiny though, use motions sheen oil spray, or even just use hot water - the straightening methody thing always makes my wigs appear nicer. :3 (particularly if they've arrived from jut being shoved in a bag & are all tangled [shakes fist at cosworx])
an alternative to Isopropyl is meths - that works just as well, and is easier to get hold of. I got quite a large bottle from the chemist down the road~ |

Re: The FW Homemade Wig Dye Recipe By Rowan. 08/01/09, 08:15 am |
| FYI you can get Isopropyl in litre bottles from places like Mitre 10 or Placemakers etc easy! The only thing to remember is that rubbing alcohol is 70% Isopropyl, so just remember to add 30% water when mixing everything up I just used this method to dye my Ciel wig and OMG I luvs it! And since I didn't apply the colour completely evenly, it has a cool natural highlight effect rather than being a solid colour. |
