Contact questions~
Post By Leeni. 20/11/08, 01:04 pm

UGH YES HI IS ME AGAIN (not that my absence was likely noticed P:)
AND I CAN HAS QUESTION.

So, I just got some colored contacts, and I've worn them... twice, and they've been.. for lack of a better phrase, frickin ANNOYING.

Do y'all have any tips for putting them in&out (er.. putting in, taking out) and just general 'how to get used to wearing them' tips?

OH, and 'how to tell whether or not it's slipped off your eye and is up in your eyelid.'

Also, ANOTHER question that is more closely linked to cosplay specifically.
Where do y'all get your lenses? The pharmacy I got mine from has.. well, a kinda shoddy selection. How do you know what is a good set of lenses and what isn't?

(Also, who has purple eyes? My girl and I were discussing it, and we couldn't think of any/many anime/manga characters with purple eyes. Weird.)

PS; hope this is in the right place. I just picked the section that already had contact-related stuff in it :3

Only some brands of party contact lenses come in presceiption grades. So taht's probably why they are fairly limited at your optometrist. I know my sight is just bad enough I restrict myself to those kinds. It's quite nice being able to see contestants really ;)

It takes a fairly bad lot of planning for them to shift from place. Your eyeball is not a perfect sphere and over your pupils there is a bit of a bulge. So the lense really stays there because it's the only area it is small enough for. It will really only shift off if it's too big or if it tears. I have had the latter and I think I still have bits under my eyelid- it's just gritty and not painful and will wear down eventually. If it is tehre and I'm not just imagining things.

There is no one easy way to remove lenses, I pretty much pinch them off with my thumb and middle finger. As for getting them in, if you have ever put on mascara you'll know the basic principle of looking in the mirror while waving a pointy object near your eye. I also hold my eyelids open in a very similar way, I really think this is something you need to be shown in person though a few times. I've worn lenses since 97 so it's been a while since I had to learn.

A good place to get them would be your local optometrist. At the very least you will get your eyes measured and be given a good regime to keep them clean. All the horror stories you here come from lenses being poorly fitted or from sharing and not cleaning the things.

Chrome from KHR has purple eyes.

As Neimhaille said, the best place to get them is your local optometrist, but the range is sadly limited. For more exotic colour changes, you'd be best trying to look on TradeMe - Fantasy Eyes is a very trustworthy trademe brand as far as I've heard.

I don't know if it helps or not, but here's a crappy paint tutorial I did a while back of how I usually do my contact lenses.

I can't really add much more than what's been said before me, really. :)

What I find helps to get contacts out is to look up and touch the lense, then slide it down to the outer corner of your eye where you can then grab it out.

As for where I get my lenses from - Fantasy Eyes on Trade Me. They're very reliable and I've had no problems with them so far. Just make sure to buy some solution to wash them with before you put them in & to store them in, and follow general hygiene common sense. :3 If you're still not sure though, it is definitely well worth a visit to an optometrist as mentioned before. nodnod

Oh yes, that's a valid point. You *can't* store *or* wash contacts with plain water - you have to buy some contact lense solution, which you should be able to get at any optometrist or pharmacy. :)

They were working for me till I emptied my cache. Changed server and they work now - perhaps coscom has direct image linking protection or summat.

What I find, to put them in, put your finger OVER your eyelashes. Even though the picture says otherwise. Especially if you have stupid overly-long eyelashes like me Dx. If the contact hits your eyelash as you're putting it in, it will stick to your finger, not your eye -___-.

And to take them out, pur your index finger over your eye and drag it out. Easiest way, IMO. (Actually, I never could do the pinching way - partly because of rediculously long fingernails xD. The optometrist kept making me cut them shorter and shorter!! ;__; )

A good place to get coloured contacts with a huge variety is those gothic/punky stores, like Stardust Creations, I know they're in Wanganui & New Plymouth. I personally prefer getting them from stores so they don't get damaged in the mail or something. So look around your town? You'll be surprised!
Oh & speaking of coloured eyes, what characters have pink eyes? I wanna get more use out of mine... nodnod

I REMEMBER WHY I HATE THEM

I can never get my eye open wide enough, it takes so long to put them in... I guess I need to practise more (probably put contacts in a total of... three times)

You just need to open your eyelid and the skin under you eye enough.

I always manage to blink when putting them in though -__-.

Bah, thank you so much guys <333333
Like, really!
I think I've got the hang of 'em now (yaaay)
I can barely feel them when they're in!
And then when I can't.. it makes me worry about whether or not they're actually in >_< ehe

I have very small eyes (and i only buy contacts that are in cute bottles.. they cost $60.. and i get them from other sources..)

Getting used to contacts..
you have to get used to cleaning them very well with solution

suggested to wash your hands thoroughly first with soap, rub solution on your fingers dealing with the contact, clean the contact with solution before putting in eye, shake of excess solution then open eye wide whilst looking in the mirror to begin placing contact in eye starting in the white area then sliding to the pupil.

I always check my contact to see if there's any dust or bit that might get stuck in my eye (which is super bad.. )

I also have lashes that go straight down (and i mean STRAIGHT down... they poke me in the eye when i blink in the wind sometimes T_T )

I has myself 2 pairs or coloured contacts and looking to get some more :3
