| Don't leave your stuff at the front desk if they don't have a ticket system.
Sounds simple, but it can be easy to forget as I found to my peril
Get enough SLEEP, especially if its a three day con. I'm washed out by Sunday lunch, and that's only on a two day con. |

| The food thang is a biggie. Have a decent breakfast before the con so at least you've got something to work with during the day.
Adrenaline flows like water at cons, and your energy bar depletes a lot faster than usual. Top it up during the day, but yes - avoid a sugar-rich diet. Two cans of V on an empty stomach does not a happy ending make. |

If you feel like it imply they're gay infront of their friends & walk away. 8D It'd be hilarious. Or invite them back to your hotel room to do cocaine.
... I'm not endorsing any of the above. |

| Heh, there is a name in the SCA for fighters who won't accept a solid blow; Rhino Hide. I have developed a Rhino hide for the, shall we say, less than flattering looks and comment some attendees and some people who should know better will say.
I'm usually fairly tolerant of some, and I will deliberately put blinkers on for others: oh they are young or they are making a joke or referring to something I'm not privy to. It's not worth getting focused on a small group when there is so much more fun to be had :)
Best advice is to get to know people here, organise to be with people as much as possible and bask in the awesomeness that is cosplay :) Also when you get tired and overwhelmed chill out outside or in the restaurant next door. They do wedges and hot chocolate and it's nice and close in case you want to get back in. |

| lmao, the ten year olds that passed me were awesome as!!! they were all like, "TenTen!!! can we get a high five??" and i was all like, "HELL YES!!!" and if there are little snots out there tease them by saying, "well at least my girlfriend is hotter than yours" and if they are all like "i dont have a girlfriend" then you have two comebacks. option one "exactly" then tilt your nose up and walk elegantly away. option two yell pretty loudly "TINY TEN YEAR OLD UKE!!! FANGIRLS SWARM!!!" thatll teach him to open his mouth at a con |

Costumes can be quite fragile, so becareful con-goers~ (^ especially on competition days!) |

Re: Convention Tips By Icarus. 05/04/10, 08:59 am |
| Oh and here's another tip
If a cosplayer is on wheels, DON'T physics PUSH THEM from behind to make them 'roll forward' if that person wasn't a small little girl, I would've.. 1) costume is at risk, 2) so is the safety of the cosplayer
COSPLAYERS ARE HUMANS, NOT GAME CHARACTERS WITH EXTRA LIVES DAMNIT!!

Costumes can be quite fragile, so becareful con-goers~ (^ especially on competition days!) None of my cosplays has been fragile yet, but this is sound advice. On the hugging/glomp thing - Always, ALWAYS ask first, unless you a. know that person personally and b. know it won't damage them/their costume/props in anyway >> And oh, if you're confused about gender (lol, it happens xD) just ask the person, it's better then being constantly referred to by character name only and/or it, and I bet most of us won't be offended, just glad we can pull off the crossplay xD |

| About the make-up... From personal experience... if you're getting hot and sweaty, you should dry your self off and reapply. Cause it is not awesome when you get a face shaped tan mark on the front of your costume after hugging another cosplayer.... (it is not cool!) |

Re: Convention Tips By HikaruxKaoru. 14/06/13, 08:59 am |
| Just a touch of make up can make a big difference!
And remember to carry some with you just in case you wipe it off by accident. I wish I had brought some extra concealer when I had realised that most of it had come off on my sleeve when I rubbed my face.
It's also handy to have for other people. In the bathrooms a girl became really upset because her painstaking make up was ruined. It felt great to be able to rush to the rescue and let her use mine!
On that note, give yourself plenty of time to get ready! You don't want to break down in a big ball of stress minutes before the con because your make up is a mess. (been there...) |
