Why do you cosplay?

PinkGoggles/Static/Suixelo: it ain't just the girls that get bummed about their weight/figure, I never realised quite how erm. visible my gut was until I saw the photos/videos.. Think I might have to put a bit of effort into trying to get rid of it, especially since I used to have washboard abs when I was a teen. Damn I miss them.

TinTango/Suixelo/Aura: Yeah, it is good for confidence, plus since everyone has so many shared interests the conversations are epic! :) I haven't maimed myself with a sewing machine (yet), but most people you'd expect to go "wtf?", around here the response is usually "ouch, i've done that before". lol. :)

I have always liked sewing. I like the challenge of cosplay. And there's no better feeling in the world (to me, anyway) than finally finishing a cosplay and having all your hardwork come together.
Also, I have always loved dressing up. It's fun to wear something unusual, it makes things more interesting, unexpecting... days when I dress up are never boring.

I ditto everything said for boosting confidence. I used to be very socially awkward, I couldn't even talk to the person I considered to be my best friend properly anymore. The time I started cosplaying was around the time I started getting better socially. It forced me to have conversations with people I'd never meet before, and encouraged me to talk to other people. It's so easy to relax around cosplayers, they are all so nice and fun (from my experience anyway). Yay for cosplayers!

It's so funny how everybody gets more confident in costume - I find it's the opposite! I feel like everybody's looking at me and makes me hella nervous. Shaky hands, unsteady walking, the works. I'm pretty amazed I haven't fallen over onstage yet, to be honest XD If I do keel over in front of everybody, will somebody help me up BEFORE you start laughing plz?

I always get like that on stage... I have bad stage fright (the only reason I enter the competitions anymore is so I can see all the costumes/skits close up XD) but it's no different if I am in costume or not

actually the only reason why i got into cosplay is because my friend wanted her twin i.e. she was supposed to be Souseiseki and me Suiseiseki last Armageddon ... but seriously since Duckeh brought me to these forums I'm cosplaying so much more than i expected XD

and yeah I also get a confidence boost from it as well ... usually I'm not very good with talking in front of alot of people ... but yeah doing the skit was fun =D

Hm. To tell the truth.
I hate the sewing and the whole designing on how to make the actual clothes (I never use pre-cut patterns lol~ I make my own on newspaper 8Db). But I love making the props XD

I'm an attention whore. So I guess I do it for the attention.
But then again. I do it for the lulz as well C:
I like meeting new friends because of cosplay.

I find my cosplaying friends more fun than my school friends/other friends (which in a way, is kinda sad >> )

I could say that cosplay (anime, manga, etc) has saved me from spiralling downwards (I was a depressed little child XD;;; Pretty morbid child... ahaha...)

So in conclusion, I love cosplaying because its a fun hobby <3 Pretty obsessive one too D: I swear I think about cosplay about every hour >: Even in my dreams D8

My school friends are my cosplay friends xDD. We hang out almost everyday~ But in uniform xDD.

Of course I have lots of cosplay friends that go to other schools/uni as well though.

Sometimes my classmates can't believe that i'm on stage - being really confident and showing off alot (lol doing flips for chinese dance group and japanese dance group)

Why Do I Cosplay?

Well I do it for the fun of it. I hate making the hardest costumes and I try going for the easy ones. My school does not get alot of anime and, well I try and bring it to them. I dress up at random situations and get lots of credit for it. Also I never get anybody to cosplay with me so I have a fun time doing it ^^

So thats why I cosplay!!

I think I cosplay because I love putting on a costume and changing into someone else. It's so much fun!

Also it's a really interesting hobby. Much better than stamp collecting.

I cosplay because...

Well, at first, I just wanted to out-geek my friends, who I thought were major internet geeks, and I wanted to be like/better than them. (I later found out that only one of them has at any point been more interweb-tard then me)

Then it was to weird out my friends/not friends at school.

THEN I found out I really enjoyed it, plus the attention it got me. (I'm used to being ignored by my friends.)

Up to this point, it was all pre/during my very first cosplay

Now its because I enjoy cosplay and really like the people I cosplay with. Since (this is a major presumption, but anyway) most cosplayers are the sort of geeky, computer addict, smart type people, I dont have to explain what I talking about to people.
And also, since I know almost no-one through any other means than cosplay, I feel like I can act completely myself around them. I dont even do that with some of my closest friends. (My best friend (and former "identicle twin") of ten years goes out drinking every week, is almost the most popular girl in school in my year, and doesnt even know what anime is. We are nothing alike anymore.)

I feel like I just wrote an essay.
Now you all know all little more about me. Probably too much. But oh well.

But then I got stuck. ;D Making costumes is so fun... Putting together the pieces and going "omg this isn't going to work! Wail!" and then IT DOES. And you feel so incredibly special.

And it was so much fun being in pictures at Geddon and so forth. SO much better to be the object of interest rather than just another random wandering about. XD

I'm new to all this, but you can't get rid of me nao! 8D

i just really like cosplaying. it gives me a chance to show the world how insane i am sometimes and because i'm an attention whore.

i can't sew well (but then that have something to do wth my sewing machine, it refuses to cooperate when i need it the most!) but i do get help from my mom and fabric glue does come in handy
