Feedback on the cosplay events~? By Guest. 29/10/08, 12:14 pm |
| howdy,
just wanting to see if you've got any feedback for the event we did on the Sunday, and/or any suggestions for future ones. (planning on doing cosplay chess, another freeze, bigger catwalk with more questions/as a seperate thing - ideas run out there. I think the dances thing is getting old, so if anyone can suggest any new alternatives OR new dances it'd be appreciated~)
and also, big BIG thanks to JP for being our technical dood, it was definitely appreciated. :)
and can we have another round of applause for all our dancers? :3 |

| WHY AREN'T YOU ON MSN JEN?!
Anyway: It was great! Much better than last year. I think it needed more events though. It was very short. |

| Cosplay Events were fun, I enjoyed performing our skit and getting the opportunity to see other cosplayers that I probably wouldn't have found again on the day (I noticed that I didn't see the Zim and Gir after that)
The freeze was epic and I'd be totally keen to do it again. Hope there will be more to do next year, thanks for organising all of this Jen. |

| I loved the 2mins skit haha. I think more skits, and opportunity to involve the audience more? Idk.
To remedy the dances thing, I think Gekisou would work well, as it's something a lot of people haven't seen before, they're used to just seeing the regular one. |

| lol, I can imagine your stress must have been higher this time, you just didnt look as panicked as last time. I think it improved your overall performance! ;)
probably helped that most of the room was all in the same boat, so you were performing for peers, rather than at DO, which was packed, small space, and full of strangers crowding round staring at you |

| Just a suggestion... but how bout some Karaoke? You could get cosplay characters singing some mainstream songs, or see if there are any anime theme karaoke songs, then you could get crowd involvement or just pass the mic around. |

Re: Feedback on the cosplay events~? By jpwise. 05/11/08, 03:20 pm |
| Yeah, although my only thought with karaoke is it could be problematic since it's not really something the entire audience can enjoy. Dances etc the entire audience can enjoy, karaoke, unless they're an actually a really good singer, could get very strained, very quickly. Just my take on it anyway. |

Re: Feedback on the cosplay events~? By sakuramiyabi. 05/11/08, 04:36 pm |
| um you do know in Auckland there is a karaoke place called the Rock Bar on Queen St (right opp. where the Richard Smith/the Den is)
and they have a HUGE variety of anime songs as well as Japanese, Korean and English songs
The variety they have is awesome, and they use the same machine as is used in Japan so =3 lol
sung Hare Hare Yukai, MOtteke Sailor Fuku etc
only downside is ... its all in kanji as its all straight from Japan so no romanji (pronounciation) lol you got 2 choices
1. bring a friend who reads kanji fluently and make them sing with you so you can go by ear for 2 hours (which is what I do XD ) 2. Or prepare the songs you want to sing in advance and bring the romanji lyrics with you but itll be dark in the room though im pretty sure you can do something about the lighting =3
and I agree with jp on that ...
bad karaoke = OMFG MY EARS ARE BLEEDING SO BAD PLEASE STOP AND SAVE ME kind of feel ... believe me yeah ... its horrible ... i know ... i have experienced it ... its not fun
and funnily enough all my otaku friends (ie those who watch anime and have no life) are pretty good at karaoke while ... normal friends are ermhorribleerm yeah ... not fun
as for myself lol im gonna be up my self and say i think im pretty good ... though not very XD |

Re: Feedback on the cosplay events~? By Sonic Reducer. 05/11/08, 04:57 pm |
| I think karaoke is only strained if you don't know the singer. with like most things it's kinda envriomental, you're there generally to have a good time and not to win New Zealand Idol (not that they can sing either), so in a situation where you're with people who are also there to have a good time its not the singing that matters. I've gonna karaoking with people with terrible voices, and even people in the audience who are there for the fun of it too get into it, sing along, etc... thats my experience atleast. |

Re: Feedback on the cosplay events~? By TinTango. 05/11/08, 08:45 pm |
| Yeah, I am kinda biased because I'm a great singer but I totally know what you mean, I've heard some really bad Karaoke singing (ever watch "Homai te Pakipaki" on Maori TV?) which can really kill the mood. I was thinking more some pre-prepared Karaoke songs with the backing and *if well supported* some group dance routines. There might have to be a preliminary viewing of items, just to make sure theres a good standard. |

Re: Feedback on the cosplay events~? By Suixelo. 05/11/08, 11:26 pm |
| Hmmm... In America, they do karaoke as an event at cons, so it could work. But not for an audience really... It's more just a fun thing to do.
I like karaoke but I'm really shy about my voice haha. So unless I know everyone in the room, I'm not that confident. I used to be, not sure what happened lol. |

| lol XD
another event idea ... could be used at DO as well but XD lol
"Name the Song" but you say out a phrase/chorus of a song that is somewhat well known and give the audience 5 min(or however long) to figure it out and whoever gets it right wins a small prize ... or something like thatXD |

Ooooo! In that case I just might have to challenge you... if this goes ahead. But I don't know many anime songs though. |
