Halloween! By firecat70. 30/09/08, 11:02 am |
| It's only a month away now! So I have some questions
Are you dressing up? If so, what as? Do you celebrate Halloween? How? Dressing up? Decorations? Trick or treating? Your general opinion on it? Anything else you wish to add?
I love Halloween so much. It is the highlight of my year. I get to put fake blood on everything AND dress up. Complete win. Normally I have a party, but due to art panel dead lines I don't think it's gonna be possible. So instead I am spooky-ing up the house and giving candy to the wee trick or treaters (future cosplayers!!). Today I experimented with making shrunken heads out of apples. Much excitement was had. I think I am either going to dress up as Velma from Scooby Doo or some random cosplay I having lying around. Or a zombie. Mmm, brains.
Your turn! |

| Ehehehe, awesome excuse fer dressing up! I usually make an effort for costumes, but not too much else - not into the trick-or-treating thing, but parties are usually full of happy fun shenanigans, so that makes it pretty awesome |

Re: Halloween! By Pura. 30/09/08, 12:06 pm |
| No one in their right mind would trick-or-treat up my street (Wellington = hilly, in my street, very). Buying lollies for the trick-or-treaters is just an excuse for us to have lollies xD. Last year we went trick-or-treating (a few of us cosplayers), and we got egged -_____-. Well, one person did, the rest of us managed to avoid (or scare the people so badly with rage that they didn't dare throw the eggs). I don't know what we're gonna do this year though. I kinda just want to have a party rather than bother go trick-or-treating. |

Ahh D: I hate people who egg people on Halloween. Once I saw a teeny tiny kid who got egged T^T I always fear people will egg our house -nods-
Hmm, I should see if the CCC is planning on doing anything! Since Palmy and Auckland are far from where I dare venture.
I just ordered a UV light off TradeMe. Very exciting stuff, I am not 100% what I will do with it yet... maybe I could colour a skull in on my face in UV pen and then have the UV light by the door so when I go to the door a skull will appear on my face >=D |

| I don't celebrate Halloween. Rather, not the trick-or-treating side of it. My family doesn't believe in it, though we do have a Hallows Eve style celebration. We set up candles in our rooms and basically remember our ancestors (one candle per ancestor). I usually have the most, because I put a small candle up for one of my friends who died in a car accident a few years ago. He doesn't count as an ancestor but we still remember him.
(Note to self: Buy candles for the Summer solstice) |

| Trick or Treating is American, we never did it in England haha. We would have Halloween parties with our friends and do traditional games like Apple Bobbing and stuff =] My mum was very reluctant to let us go Trick or Treating when we came here because she felt it was too American and not 'nice' XDXD |

| My mum's against trick-or-treating. She doesn't like the idea of asking stangers for candy. She still lets us go, but she doesn't take us around (I'm not sure if that's not liking the concept or the streets, though. WELLINGTON HILLS!! xD). |

| This year will be the first time I've ever done something for Halloween, i.e. dressing up and going to Wissy's party. I'll be a Bleach shinigami lol
I can't say I understand the whole trick or treating thing. You get taught by your parents not to take candy from strangers, then on Halloween this lesson goes flying out the window. -_- |

My mum was very reluctant to let us go Trick or Treating when we came here because she felt it was too American and not 'nice' XDXD I find a lot of people in NZ don't like Halloween for similar reasons. Either because it's American and commercialized or because they don't think it's safe. It's such a shame because it is such a neat holiday, luckily it's catching on here more and more. My dad's side of the family hails from America, so it's in my blood, haha. Srsly though... Halloween in America is awesome. Heaps of people get really into decorating and there's tones of kids out trick or treating. Everywhere you look. It's a nice (if not hyperactive from all the sugar) vibe. Here, you hardly see anyone celebrating it. If they do, it's a much more private thing.
Yay for all those going trick or treating XD My friend is having a birthday party the day after Halloween, so we are gonna make it Halloween themed. Back to making tombstones! |

| I love Halloween in America! They sell Halloween everything, we've even got Halloween socks haha! Everything over there is big though, Christmas time was amazing~
I guess it's just not a big deal here, it's got nothing to do with NZ culture and I think it might also have to do with the diversity we have, too. |

| AHHH, I wish Halloween was celebrated more here. D: I remember the good old times when I was kid and used to dress up as a witch (every single year at that) ^^;;;
This year I'm planning to get together with a few friends and dress up Goru Lolita style. Can't wait to freak them out with the fake blood~ |
