rules regarding props at geddon? By saneko. 22/04/13, 08:17 am |
| i went to go do some research on the Armageddon expo site, and around our cnz forums but (im probably stupid and accidently flew past it) I can't seem to find a proper page for cosplay prop rules, because me and my friend are having a hell of a time trying to find swords and whatnot, at the best we can find are blunt metal ones, rather than wooden ones, can anyone link me or tell me just the general overview of the cosplay rules please?
ah, and if taping the swords or just doing something to the swords will actually change anything cuz it still seems weird to me how I got told you aren't allowed to bring in metal swords/props but you can buy them inside of geddon -___-" please and thankies~ |

| If it is contest rules you can find the huge pack of information here: http://armageddonexpo.com/uploaded/Images/2013/Comics/2013-trans_tasman_cup.pdf Briefly the idea is it should be light material that isn't going to hurt anyone if you have it with you, paper mache, cardboard, plastic, foam, balsa wood and the sorts. In contest case metal is NOT allowed unless for use of screws and hinges.
In the case of the cosplay parade I would say you might not be allowed on stage if you have metal weapons just because it's a hazard but someone else more relevant may be able to comment for sure.
If you're buying them to just have around the convention I would suggest finding wooden ones because metal even blunt is more dangerous to have in a crowded situation. That and you never know if security/venue operators will let you in with metal weapons.
As for buying swords inside the venue, metal swords come packaged inside a box and each person is given a flyer/paper that says to be responsible and such forth it is the person removing the weapon from the box (generally this is discouraged until they get home).
Hopefully that covers it. |

| Around the con the rules are a little bit more relaxed compared to the contest BUT for the parade metal props are a no go. I may be the person doing prop checks for the parade and I've been told to make sure there are no metal props :)
Metal is pretty much a no go... |

| As a host for the cosplay parade, I can tell you now that no metal props will be allowed on stage - too many instances of people waving swords around and losing grip on them! :) It's for your own safety physically as well as legally - if you injure someone by accident (or if someone else pinches your weapon and injures someone) you could get in some serious trouble.
The general rule of thumb is that your prop should break before it breaks someone else. |

| Also people buying their props at the show are told to keep them boxed and put them in the car. Peter at Trinity Treasures has a flier at his booth about the ramifications of not doing so. |
