Help with Kunimitsu [Tekken Tag 2]
Post By Seakittens. 09/02/13, 04:10 pm

So I'm pretty stuck on this one. Mask is sorted, armour I'm about to play with, the main part is the lower half of the purple kimono.

Spoiler:

How to explain this without looking like a doof... Okay! SO. See where there's a line under the obi and it kind of looks like it's been folded under...? Would I literally just fold that under and the obi would hold it in place or is it literally a top and a skirt as in they're seperate pieces? Then there's the bit where it laces up, is that the left front piece literally pulled over and laced over to the back-side of the skirt? Okay that made no sense, I doof'd.

Anyway, I was going to make it like the cosplayer's below:

Spoiler:

But it's rather inaccurate. So... Hints/tips on how I should do it so I don't waste/screw up my $30p/m fabric ;A;?

It may interest you to research actual kimono & yukata.

You will also see that traditionally the fold is just an adjustment of length when a kimono was too long and in general is held in place by the many panels and obis of a kimono.

The simplest being a yukata, which comprises of elastic, board and then obi to hold everything in place ... if I remember correctly.

I recommend researching and practicing seeing as she is wearing only 2 layers (one if you're just counting the bottom part). It really isn't that difficult.

I would personally approach it as two separate pieces/skirt&top, because of that split.

But it's up to you. If you want to do it as one piece I'm sure you could find a way to alter a traditional yukata/kimono pattern to have more in the bottom to pull over and cut some out for that split. And then stitch the fold in somehow, because it probably wouldn't hold with a ~for show~ obi.

I think it does look like a fold... But I think going the skirt/top way is a bit more practical? And may end up with a better result.

I agree with Duckeh, i think 2 pieces would be easier.

I would go with a fake obi as a real one takes up a lot of fabric, can be difficult and time consuming to put on nicely and if you're wanting to run around, jumping and crouching like a crazy person I'd imagine a real one to come apart a bit.

And as you're using fancy fabric, I'd use some cheap or leftover fabric to make a mock up so you dont ruin your lovely fabric :)

How are you doing the shoes? You're going to look gorgeous!! Very Happy Tekken girls ftw!! <3

Thanks for the help everyone! I have no idea how i'm doing the shoes yet. Figure I'll work on everything else first, haha.

I think I'll approach it as two pieces as my biggest fear is anything falling apart and theres no way to know if the fold would stay. Whatever is most practical~

If you did want the fold to stay, then baste it in place with some stitches.
