What's a material/technique you want to use but haven't yet?

I really want to try vacforming! I'm gonna be honest, Static piped my interest in it, her stuff looks cool, so i'm like... If I used the same method... My stuff will be automatically awesome, right? 8'D {Wrong.} D'8

Feel free to discuss things further relating to the topic in here. <: Know a good tutorial for something someone want's to use/do? Drop a link!

I bought some wonderflex and........that other one... Fosshape! Samples at Auck so am keen to have a play with them sometime. Also want to try expanding foam! But idk what for. I don't think many of the cosplays I choose have props aha... So pretty much any prop making material since I have next to know knowledge about any of them.
Kind of keen to maybe remake Synchronicity!Meiko's armour out of wonderflex sometime because mygod it looks terrible Dx

Oh some sort of moulding/casting stuff! But I've read so any tutorials on that and I just get so confused trying to understand it Dx

Wonderflex and all that sanding stuff that Static uses! Razz I forget the name of it, lol.

And I want to try resin casting, but there's so many different types of resin I got confused on what one to use. The clear one looks like it has a dark base, or is that just me? So if someone has a resin tutorial along with the latex? mould for resin shapes, that would be much appreciated |D

I've used expanding foam before and it's quite fun! Very Happy. But my cat likes to eat the offcuts, which can't be good (it's a right pain trying to keep them away from her).

Oh, if anyone know of any light and easy to mould clay, please tell me Very Happy. Papermagiclay is light, but it doesn't set very hard. The general clay might work, but at the same time it might be too heavy and crack and fall off, so I was wondering if there was a middle ground clay, lol (oh, and oven set stuff is no good).

Although I just thought that that stuff, I think it was plaster of paris? Where you wet it and put it on and it sets? Might work. Maybe even fosshape. Hmmm, decisions now OTL

I think the best way to get into casting is to rock on up to a shop, read the instructions on the back, clarify with shop keeper & then try using that in a basic way to cast a gem or something. I had Rowan cast in front of me/show me the first time, while just reading the instructions and that made a lot of the tutorials/descriptions of the resin make a lot more sense. It also gave me a better base to ask better questions to the shop keeper and stuff. Although it is a bit expensive, so I understand why you'd be hesitant. But seriously, if you're going to an art shop for the moulding/resin supplies they generally know what they're talking about! Just explain what sort of thing you're casting and they should have an idea. Hardware stores are sometimes a bit iffy on the people knowing though, because they're so largggeee.

Have you guys seen Volpin's wonderflex tutorial?

Fiber-glass! I haven't lived somewhere where I could do it and I am too wussy.

Bondo - I've helped sand some but not sculpted with it before. That stuff is rock solid and quite economical

Embroidery - I have a mother who is a master embroiderer but ability is sadly not genetic .I guess I need to actually practice!

I've made one helmet mold with silicon, but I would like to do more with it, as there are a few things I will do differently next time.
I also want to learn leather work. One of my holy grail costumes is Eomer's red armour from LotR Two Towers, so I'll definitely need leather working abilities for that one Very Happy

^ Leather is the bomb! I've worked with light garment weight leather but I would love to learn how to work with the heavier stuff.

I just bought some wonderflex and fosshape too, so that will be used soon ;)

Other than that, vacforming because wow. EXPANDING FOAM BECAUSE IT EXPANDS. And pretty much everything else mentioned! I am pretty much a newbie when it comes to a lot of the materials people use in cosplay haha so I am picking things up slowly. Each costume I learn more so that's progress anyhow!

I just bought some Worbls'a finest Art that I am really keen to try out.

It's another type of thermoplastic like wonderflex. I'm also exited because the heated leftovers can be smooshed together and used like a putty.

If you find the right place it's a bit cheaper than wonderflex and from what I've seen it can make some very nice armor XD

Yeah, leather is awesome. It's so easy to work with (provided you have the right toolkit). I'd like to do something with leather again.

As for something I haven't tried yet: tailor's canvas. I'd like to make jackets the proper way, basting and padstitching the canvas by hand.

Wonderflex I'd like to try, as well as fosshape and polymorph pellets! They all seem so interesting!

Expanding foam I haven't played around with yet, as well as paperclay.
