Hair: Gel, Wax, Spray?

I'm just wondering what the best method is for getting an anime style hair.

My current inspiration is Gary Oak..
Hair: Gel, Wax, Spray? Gary

How do you guys get your hair to stick up? What brands? What techniques?

Heya. I would reccomend any of Wella's finishing sprays. They're high quality and are easy to work with.
Gels and waxes are really gross and greasy and are hard to work with and don't really leave you with a nice finished product.

Go with a really strong hairspray (I use Schwarzkopf Extra Care Ultimate Styling in a level 5- which is the strongest hairspray by them you can get- it does pretty well!). Are you using a wig? It'll make it a lot easier if you can style it before the day of the convention and just clip it on.

What you might want to do is gel spike the ends to get a smooth spike the entire way and then spike them up/sideways. Also recommending Schwarzkopf cause it holds like nothing else, gel and spray are found in supermarkets usually.

Agree with Fleyer. Once you don't have to worry about the spike flying apart then you might find it easier to style the spike. So I would maybe pull a spike out spraying with a little hair spray, use spiking glue on the end (found in supermarkets in strengths 5-6), and then style and hair spray the rest.

Hairspray is good! Very Happy

I've never used gel or wax though Razz

You can generally buy a pretty strong one in supermarkets for around $5. I use Schwartskoff I think? (I can't spell, hehe)

Awesome! So many great suggestions! I think using a bit of gel to shape Gary's spikey hair and then going over it with hair spray is the way to go. Pretty sure it's gonna take me a few attempts to get it right, #isaguy, maybe getting a wig is the way to go. Does anyone know of any wigs that'd look like Gary Oak?

Generally the wigs in shops in town are quite bad, and make me want to cry a little Razz

though there might be juuuust enough time to get one if you find a buy now one.

And some costume hire shops actually have good wigs. The one I work at has some really nice wigs because the lady buys them from chinese wholesale websites and they are actually called cosplay wigs, lol. But if you go one from there would wouldn't be able to cut it, but you'd be able to hairspray it, you'd just have to wash out all the hairspray before handing it back Razz

Thanks Pura! I did some shopping today. I think I'm gonna settle for using my own hair instead of buying a wig. Even though my hair is quite a bit shorter. I think I'll be able to style it into a pretty similar fashion as Gary's. I also got some brown hair dye and contacts. Hehe.
