Here at CNZ, we're all about new things, and one of these new things we're setting up are sketchbooks!

But, hold on. What's this 'sketchbook' thing then?

Glad you asked! A sketchbook is the perfect platform for you to post things you're working on, progress, maybe write a tip or two along the way. What did you learn? What did you NOT learn? Sketchbooks are a great medium for you to see visible evidence of your own progress, as well as enabling people to see how you got from A to B with a beautiful, gorgeous finished COSTUME.

Can we have an example?

Sure! We're basing these heavily off conceptart.org's own fine arts sketchbooks. However, sketchbooks there are comprised mainly of figure drawings, digital art exercises etc.-- but your sketchbook is for anything costumey! Make-up trials, progress on a costume, wig styling, even just notes of things you've learned or techniques you want to remember. Your sketchbook represents you and your journey.

So, how do I set one up?

Follow these simple steps!

1.) Post in the Sketchbooks forum. This post is now your 'sketchbook'!
2.) Your post title must be formatted: [username's sketchbook] <sketchbook title> | e.g. [seraphik] BOOK OF SKETCHIN'S. or [finn] Sketchventure Time, c'mon grab your friends! etc. Feel free to use post title colours!
3.) One sketchbook per person, not per costume.

Can other people post in my sketchbook?

Yes (but only comments)! Progress is always sweeter when your friends are following you. Maybe they wanna know where you got those pimpin' feathers. Maybe they just wanna give you props. Everything helps!

Oohh, this is a cool idea? What kind of stuff does it include? Just anything? Having your own thread for your work is a cool idea! It's like deviantart on cnz Razz

Like complete pictures or wips, or just anything in general costume related?

anything your heart desires! ref pics of the costumes you're working on, progress pics, any other sewing/costume related stuff-- really just anything you're working towards! so any of those things you mentioned would be super appropriate. (: nothing has to be complete or anything, it's more just, 'HEY I'M WORKING ON THIS, HAVE A LOOK'!

It'd also be super cool to hear about people working out how they're gonna make stuff! C: Like, maybe just a post with why you've decided to do it that way. And little working stuff out sketches!

I just think it's gonna be awesome seeing how people go about stuff!

we're going to leave the general progress thread there, but a sketchbook really allows you to go into a lot more detail than just one post, as well as image spam without spoilers. and everyone loves image spam! it also provides more personal feedback, since your thread is solely your own.

personally i can see the sketchbooks nullifying the general progress thread, but yes!

Hey

I am running the R18 Cosplay ball and I am wanting to put cosplayer's art up on the wall at our venue. I want to do this so we can see what the cosplay community has to offer and also to have a bit of publicity for our cosplay artists. Can I ask if anyone wants to display their art at the ball? Or is this thread only for sketchbooks?

@Tatsuhime: If you're looking for art, hit up the Artist's Alley subforum. :) The sketchbook forum is more of a 'WIP' forum than for art. If you read underneath the name of each forum it has a description telling you what that forum is about.

How do we delete ours? Like so we can make one for a different costume? I tried just deleting the text and stuff and putting my new costume in, but the comments ares still there regarding the cosplay.

The idea is to use the same thread for multiple costumes so people can see your progress! It sounds like you might be better off starting fresh though if you've deleted your posts from it - if you report the thread I'll delete it for you.
