Free Patterns :) By neimhaille. 20/08/09, 05:42 am |
| Hey all as there is a thread for finding random materials I thought I'd post a thread showing where and how to get free patterns :) I'll keep updating this as I refind links ;) But this one came through today so I thought I should share first:
Modern Men's and womens http://m-sewing.com/
Burda free patterns http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns?free=1&highest_rated=1 Mostly user added content.
Vintage Vintage and Antique patterns: one week only! http://www.uri.edu/library/special_collections/COPA/index.php Login is guest, password is pattern. Do a search for age, gender and type of garment going year by year can be a bit tedious, I would like to go decade by decade personally :) The evening dresses are great, especially the 30s, 40s and 70s :) The scans are of the pattern envelopes and do include the pattern layout. This may seem really daunting but they are a fantastic learning source :) If you print the images to full a full A4 you can then cut the pieces out and sellotape them together to get an idea of how the patterns work and then you can look at how to scale them up and also how to adapt them. Short trial period for free and then you need to register with them.
Create a couture inspired gown http://www.vam.ac.uk/vastatic/microsites/1486_couture/create.php Now this is great, instructions, pattern and layout all able to be printed at home :)

| Thanks for stickifying And I'm really glad these are useful, even if just for ideas :)
And a few more in there, I may add in a few doll patterns as well as they are good ones and will also scale up to human size quite nicely. I have a few kimono patterns and saree draping pages to track down again as well :) |

| Funnily enough.... There should be some up there in one of the Victorian era tailoring manuals :) They are not easy patterns if you are trying to scale them up perfectly, just as a word of warning. Cutter's Practical Guide should have a few different examples :)
BTW sorry the Danish site has changed around and they don't seem to be sharing their pdf patterns any more It may be an oversight or it may be down to too much sharing of the files on other media (I see a lot of their images used on Pinterest for instance...) There are a few books of their patterns, sadly very expensive to get and get hold of.
I can also do a list of books I know are available in NZ libraries too? |

| Sorry for the necroing but Tidens Toj is back! http://natmus.dk/historisk-viden/temaer/modens-historie/
All the glorious snitmonster's too ;) They are pdfs off to the side of the main pictures like so: http://natmus.dk/historisk-viden/temaer/modens-historie/1700-1790/brudekjole-fra-nr-vosborg/
No need to know Danish, just click these: Modens historie
1700-1790 1790-1840 1840-1890 1890-1920 1920´erne 1930´erne 1940´erne 1950´erne 1960´erne 1970´erne 1980' erne
And the garments are in chronological order, you'll pick up enough to know what is a bloke's outfit and what is a child's. And the patterns are crazy fun. |
