Armaggedon Ball 2012?

Hey guys i noticed there was a ball at last years armageddon? how does that work and do they have one this year?

yup, they usually have some sort of ball event at each Auckgeddon, normally the Saturday evening if I remember rightly.
Last years had "mixed" reviews, but I guess as with all things it is a work in progress.

You can pick up tickets usually at the ticketing area (they are like $5 or something). It is usually a masquerade ball (or has only been so far), and masks can be found aplenty at the event, or you can get a simple one somewhere. This is not to say that you actually have to have a mask as some people get away without them.
Most people dress up in something or other of varying degrees of outrageousness...

Generally, get a ticket (which they probably wont actually check), dress up as something, if dressed up as something no one will actually care if you have a mask (once again, assuming it is a masquerade ball).

....It was really crappy :/ everyone was just chatting on the dance floors not much people actually dancing which turned me into a sad panda sad

Mask or costume. Also last year all the action happened out the back, where the cool kids(young adults) hang out.

the one two years ago was decent, last year was just bad because of their music choices. Not really ones you can dance to.

But all in all,

this year the ball is combined with the preview friday. /according to the site.
they've mentioned opening 6-9 then having the ball and burning man.

But real details won't be announced later I presume, It is only April after all.

Will the preview day/ball be cheaper again? I want to go along if my flight gets in on time. Could be a good excuse to wear my Tron suit at night time Very Happy

I might go as Satoko from Higurashi since I have her dress coming tomorrow. I'm guessing something casual would be good for the preview part.

Here's what the site says about the Friday if anyone's curious~

"And then on to the massive Auckland event on October 19th to 22nd The Auckland expo will be a three day event (Back on Labour weekend) with a special preview night on the Friday 19th from 6pm until 9.30pm. The preview night will include the Burning man and masquerade Ball and access to the exhibitor floor for all attendees."

...so we can buy stuff that night without huge crowds? Very Happy

What was the music last year? I was there the whole time and can't even remember, which is probably a bad sign.

I guess people can suggest bands/artists to Bill. (Remembering this is a charity ball, so I'm not sure how much he intends to spend on bands.)

I was shocked at the ball last year. Though it started out okay, the musicians switched to some sort of awful trance and then terrible song choices. First time I brought my friend and I was hoping to impress him. He wasn't.

We joined those who planked in protest.

Id rather there wasnt a band. A DJ would be fine, and maybe let people have song requests on the night?

Last year the music was so terrible most of us ending up hanging out outside with ipod speakers for music and taking pictures in the back area Razz

Well this year I think you get the choice of abandoning the dance for the exhibit floor.

You must admit the limbo was good though. So many pictures. Also disney pictures. But then there were the pictures of kitten >..>

My thoughts exactly. It should be, given that it's inside the show grounds :> I'm much more likely to go to preview night if it's the same night as the ball.

I wonder if there will be more chair cookies this year? Finding free biscuits is always excellent.
