Another thread, another intro

Hi, I'm Blu. Obviously that isn't my real name but it's something I use on the internet, sometimes (plus he's one of my favorite artists).

Anyways, I'm 18 years old, part Japanese and Australian, new to NZ and I've only been living in Auckland for a few months. I've never cosplayed in my life, which is a shame, and I would try cosplaying if I had any idea how, or if I had friends to do it with, but no, cosplaying alone seems mighty embarassing. I'm planning to go to the Armageddon thingy-ma-jig in Auckland, which goes on around October?, but I have no idea what to expect, the last anime-related-con thing I went to was a Pokemon one in Japan, which was awesome, got myself a Shiny Latios on my pokemon Ruby, this was 10 odd years ago, seems like yesterday :'(

So yeah, my reason for signing up is to find out what goes on in Armageddon and if it's worth going to.

I'm male btw, just to clear the mist.

dude, armageddon is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth going to! it is filled with people who like the same things as you do! ITS AMAZING.
anyway, we have a lot of topics on CNZ about cosplay groups and stuff for auckland armageddon and you can join one of those groups for cosplaying so you wont be alone, also siblings and their friends make good cosplay groups Very Happy

If you can make any con, then Auckgeddon is the one you want to make it to.
While it is not quite pokemon orientated, there are other card games there like yu-gi-oh, as well as magic.
However the event also sports a generous selection of scifi and animation events, panels and celebrity guests.
Of course, in recent years cosplayers have made up a pretty large contingent of those who frequent these cons, many of them traveling from across the island to do the Auckgeddon event (so that you get an idea of how popular it is).
I think you get over the whole embarrassing thing rather quickly, and most cosplayers are rather friendly and supportive, so meeting ppl is not too difficult.

Keep an eye on the forums (though they are a bit quieter nowadays) and see if you can jump into a group.
I think a lot of ppl are planning for chch geddon at the moment, but a few months after that the auckgeddon hype should start up.

Joining a group sounds awesome, but I'm way too shy for that, I'll probably just end up going alone, and lurk around like a creep, and by a creep I mean a dude wearing a hoodie walking around with his hands in his pocket, if you see a creep like that then it's me, if not, it's probably someone cosplaying L from Death Note.

Lol, I'd definitely have enjoyed playing Yu-Gi-Oh or pokemon at the expo as a child, idk if I can still enjoy it without embarassing myself, but I'll definitely look forward to the Animation events and cosplayers.

I've got a quick question for otaku's in Auckland, are there any anime/manga related shops in Auckland? I tried searching on the internet and found this place called graphic novel cafe, and on my way to the city I tried to find it, and it was just this really small shop a little strayed away from Queens street. It looked so small and dissapointing I decided not to go inside, maybe it was better inside, but from outside it just looked like a tiny cafe with a few mangas here and there. So are there other anime/manga shops, or something quite like it in Auckland?
