Cut my real hair....or a wig? By HikaruxKaoru. 22/05/12, 09:25 am |
| I can't find a good wig for a cosplay and I don't like buying stuff off sites that I don't know....So I"ve been debating whether I should just go to the hairdressers with a reference picture and ask them to cut my hair and then dye it....?
Is that a bad idea? Has anyone with experience got any words of widsom?
I'm deciding whether or not to get it cut like Tamaki or Hikaru/Kaoru from Ouran. If I were to dye it like the twins how would I acheive the right colour? Would I have to bleach my hair...I am already blonde? Would it be permanent hair dye or semi? Can you actually get that hair colour in dyes?

| Wigs are just a lot easier, dying hair can be really expensive and your hair may not achieve the look you want to have. I suggest looking at some cosplay wigs on ebay, check the seller's profile if you're worried about them being trustworthy or not. Sellers that are highly rated with lots of auctions and excellent feedback (you can see how many things they've sold on their page, there should be a number with a small star next to it. Same with their feedback scores, you can see what comments they've left etc.)
there are plenty of trustworthy sites other than ebay, but not every site is safe (obviously) I'm pretty sure some of the cosplayers on here know someone who commissions wigs if you'd prefer it
tl;dr
wigs are better imo
sorry for all the words xD |

| I agree with Koemix.
Wigs are better and generally cheaper since u can keep it foreeeever. I felt the same about buying wigs from overseas. Nowadays I buy wigs with group commissions on taobao and get advice from people who use the site a lot (and can read chinese).
You could try trademe, most traders are quite reliable. Also keep looking out on the marketplace for cosplayers selling second hand wigs. You could even try cutting wigs if they're not the correct length you want.
Another option could be starting out with party wigs. I find short dark coloured party wigs dont look too bad, its the lighter and longer ones that look crap. |
