The definition of Cosplay and Media assignment

Yes I know it's costume and play. But I want a definition that will explain that it's not really all too childish and will show the skills and effort that people put into this hobby. This of course will be backed up with footage. But I need a good short-ish definition for my media assignment.

I would really appriciate the help as I plan on filming this at Hamilton and Wellington Armageddons this year. Anyone who has footage and photo's from this event and is willing to let me show them on a documentary feel free to send them to me with your name. You'll be in the credits ;D

And anyone who would like to be interviewed please post here with what event you're attending and when you'd like to be interviewed it'll be really short. Pick a costume you love to strut your stuff in! I'm all so open to question ideas!

Lastly none of my media team mates are coming to Hamilton with me so I request some helpers (just to hold a camera at times really). I know the best place for lunch 3 blocks from the convention centre and I guess I'm shouting too!

I'm up for being interviewed! I'm going to Wellygeddon, and I'd prefer to be interviewed sometime on the Saturday since I'm comping on the Sunday.

I'm keen to help out - I'll be at Hamilton and Wellington 'geddons, free for interviewing any time I'm not shooting or in the comp at Welly. I can also contribute photos from those events if they help - they'll be up in my gallery afterwards, and I can give you some higher-res images to use if you like :)

As for definition - it's just character-sepcific costuming, and it's usually for the fun of making it yourself. Different communities have different priorities, but in NZ at least it's all about the making.

Sorry for the double post but I do need to bump up this thread.

I sadly won't be able to make it to Wellygeddon this year. I have yet to secure a camera for my media assignment and my friend is supposed to be giving me one that we're borrowing from school. If not I will borrow my aunts camera.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm still looking for people who want to be interviewed! They'll be short I promise.

Here are the questions if people want to prepare:
When did you start cosplaying?
How did you find out about it?
What is the best thing about cosplaying and attending events?

On the day (Costume related to what you're wearing)
Have people recognized you?
Who are you cosplaying as?

Are people bringing camcorders? I think I'll have to steal my sisters Digital Camera, for filming. My teacher can't grade me down for things I couldn't help.

Anyone who wants a interview I'll be Jaden/Judai Yuki on both days. Carrying around a DSLR and a red and yellow bag.

Sucks that you're not coming. Don't know if I'll mess with your research or not anyway though, I'm not actually from NZ and have only been here for 3 months. My perspective and experiance of cosplaying is completely different.

Also, i've never made my own costume before.
